Mr. Sylvester Middletown, of Indianapolis, is visiting friends and relatives here this week

Mr Ei. Grist moved to Crawfordsville last Tuesday, and Mr. Jim Spencer's moved near Linden the first of the week.

There will be a lecture given by Mr. Shanklin, of Cutler, Ind here at the church Sunday at 11 o'clock and Sunday night the 13'h. Every is cordially invited to attend.

Bruso's 6ale was well attended. He will move to Linden. J. A. Dodd attended the horse meeting at Crawfordsville Tuesday.

A Mr. Peterson moved last week in the house vacated by Grant Cook. Miss Ella Maguire is staying at home while her parents have gone to Shelby county.

Everybody that has to tnova will move Tuesday. ,Several have no place to go to.

Richard WiUon moved to Ladoga Monday where he expects to join the emigrant train for North Dakota.

Bid Marts will move this week near Sliannondale and Charley Custer will move in the house vacated by Marts.

A citizen of New Richmond was in this vicinity the first of the week with a paper to prohibit the licensing of a saloon keeper in that town. They are canvassing Coal Creek township to get the consent of a majority of the voters. New Richmond is at present without a saloon, and it is to the welfare of the people of the township and town that it remain so. and keep one more of those dens of evil from off the face of the earth. The citizens of the township who refuse to sign this paper refuse to even do so much an act of kindness to benefit humanity or his fellow men

John Davis moved near Linden last last Friday. Charley Myers and wife visited Ransom Myers Sunday.

Mrs. Mollie C. Myers and Howard A. Smith are on the sibk list. Jesse Clore opened his sugar camp of four hundred trees Monday.

Mrs. Jane Clore, of Crawfordsville is visiting her old home and friends. Mauson Kellar's children have the whooping cough. His oldest son is very low with lung fever.

Several are putting telephones in their bouses. Almost every house has a telephone connected with it when these are finished.

The 'Possum Ridge 6cribe made mistake in giving the date of Joel G. Deere's pulic sale as it is the 14th of March instead of the 15th.

Deward Myers is home from Busi ness College. Uis father has busines: at home for hit*. He will go back next fall and complete his work.

Mrs. Deiphine Myers died at her home near .Mearn Corner Feb. 21, interment at Lutheran church Thursday 2 She was the wife of Eiihu D. Myers and leaves two daughters and three sous to mourn her loss.

There was a tramp camping in the bushes in this neighborhood who visited some four cellars in one night during the snow. lie first went to Eli Bowman's cellar then to Jake Bowman's and to Ab Gray's and to Charley Myer's where he seemed to be satisfied with some meat and potatoes. Then he was tracked to his camping ground. Several persons circled around him and talked with him and told him that they would not disturb him if he would leave. He agreed to leave but only went into an adjoining woods and in a few nights he went to Fritz Smith's c'nick?n roost. He seemed to be armed with two revolvers. At last he took heed and left.

Mrs Shepherd is improving. Mrs. William Ward is very poorly. A wedding is rumored at Linn6burg. The saw-uiill is running in full blast. LI C. Clark, of Colfax, was here Monday.

The Virginians are still coming ir this vicinity. The sugar making season is very short this year.

Jay Harris will erect a new barn in the near future. Chas. Hipes and Dan Cara will start for the west Monday.

Mif-s Dellia Thompson is staying at Will Vance's this week. Will Morria has purchased a new wagon for to huckster in. llsrley Moody will ''hop clods" for his uucie Joe, this summer.

Ward Bros, are furnishing the wood for the Watkins school house. 11. E. Dice and Homer Caldwell are busy hanging paper this week.

Every body is talking war here but would not be very anxious to go. Esba Armstrong attended the funerof Dave Bowman near Orth Tueseay.

Mrs. Minnie Pickering, of near Shannondale, visited her parents this week Tliers will be an oxhibition at Center school house the last night of school.

Mrs. John Peterson, of Washington, D. C., is at the bedside of her sick mother.

Mrs. Lizzie (tray returned home Monday after a week's visit with Wm Skaggs'.

Our school will close in two weeks. A nice programme is being arranged for the last day.

Mrs. Ward Walkup gave a supper last Saturday evening for the little folks. Several were present and had a good time.

T. W. Lough, of Marshall, visited relatives here this week. Rev. Henson is conducting a series of meetings at Newtown.

Howard Works is taking the Keeley cure for the tobacco habit. Dr. Hamiltou will go to Hot Springs next week in search of relief for rheumatism.

Mrs. Ed Ivelley is in Indianapolis receiving instruction in the art of hat trimming.

George Anderson, the gentleman who got mixed up with a circle saw laBt Friday, got oil with the loss of only one finger.

Rev. Williams, with the assistance of Harry Wilson, a singing evangelist, is carrying on a protracted melting at the M. E church.

The Waynetown bank has just received a new coat of wall paper and will in the very near future be newly furnished with counters, tables, chairs, etc when it will compare favorably in appearance (as well as in standing) with any bank outside the cities.

LAPLAND.

Barton Grider sold a calf the other day for S50. Mrs. Lon Day's mother, of Advance is visiting her.

Chris Landis has moved from the city to his farm. James Caster and family visited at Win. Davis' this week.

Lon Day moved to his new home on the Wasson farm Wednesday. Mrs. Caroline Alsman, of Rush coun t.y, is visiting he.r sister, Mrs. Aaron Vancleave.

Mrs. Nan CaDlinger, of Marshall, is visiting her father, John Burgess, and other relatives near here.

George Gentry and Miss Mattie Reeves were married last Wednesday. We extend congratulations and wish them along and happy married life.

John Dickerson's second term of music will be out Saturday night,, and he will then train the scholars for one week for their concert to be given March 12. Everyone i6 invited to at tend the concert and hear some excellent music.

Mrs Charles Appleby is on the sick list. Henry Rapp moved to Veedersburg this week.

Gabe Shobe, of Frankfort, visited here Tuesday. C. B. Appleby went to Frankfort Sunday afternoon.

Cyrus Weaver moved to the Cherry Grove neighborhood on Tuesday last S, Thompson and family Bpent Sunday with friends in this neighborhood.

Mr. Calvin Mix. of Portland, Jay county, made us a Hying visit the first of the week.

Miss Marie Webb, who is attending high school at Frankfort, is spending vacation at home this week. "Gid" .Julian, who has been visiting friei ds here for the past month, has returned to his home in Danville, 111.

Mrs. Almira Chilcot, who has been spending the winter with friends at Portland. Ind., returned home Tuesday morning.

Mrs. Ida, relict of the late Morris Beedle, who died Dec. r, at San Luis, Mexico, returned here Tuesday to make this her future home.

There is petition in circulation to change the star mail route from here to Crawfordsvi'le. makingit startfrom Ehndale instead of here and to make six round trips a week instead of three as at present

F. J. Ogle, who left Newtown about forty years ago and who had been mourned as dead for thirty years, was hearod from last week. He is living and doing well at Garnet, Montana.

Miss Winnie Phelps gave a large party to her friends at the country residence of her father, two miles west of town on Tuesday evening and each tuest was asked to bring the first picture of themselves ever taken. There was royal fun guessing who the pictures represented Refreshments were served arid all enjoyed themselves until a late hour.

EAST GARFIELD.

James Moore bought a colt of E. Griest Monday. The party at Jim Spencer's Saturday night was well attended.

Mrs. Mary Binford, who has been quite sick, is slowly improving. Mark and Enos Elliot, of Thorn town, visited friends here last Sunday and Monday.

Several of our young folks attended a party near Cherry Grove last Thursday night.

Joseph Wheeler and wife, of Flat Creek, attended church here Sunday and took dinner with Eph Livengood and wife.

Thev moved: Jamea Moore moved to the Widow Francis place and John Mote to the house vacated by Moore Noah Amic moved into the house with Thomas Burk and Mr. Grimes to the house vacated by Amic E. F. Griest to Crawfordsville, and there will be more to follow next week.

Mrs. Katharine Charters died Tuesday evening, Feb 22, at 7 o'clock age sixty-four years. She was married to Thomas Charters in 1^08, with live little children. The funeral took nlaee at the residence Thur.','lav. Feb 24, at 10 o'clock, conducted bv Rev. Ilenson, pastor of the Haptist church, of Washington. Katharine had a large circle of friends, and was greatly loved by all. The remains was laid to rest at the Stonebraker grave yard.
