Darltiigton calaboose is iiue vlmt noted as a rendezvous for hoods auo almost every mght from one to tive rest their weary limbs under the crin mine and feathers of said calaboose Our marshals have no hesitancy in making them leave town during the day time but when they find them after dark they feel safer with them under lock and key, so that when Roe Miller introduced an Italian and his wife or lady friend to the spacious sit ting room of the calaboose and went to prepare and shake up the feather beds for their reception little did he think that the man was frozen and would be in sad plight ill next morning when he calit it to invi tiiem out to breakfast. Yet such was the case. The poor fellow's ears wero frozen stiff and hard, and next morning when Roe entered the heretotoro comfortable apartments he found the lace window curtains all awry, the brussels carpets piled up in the corner, the dago with his ears in a horrible shape swollen to about the size of a No. 11 shoe with blisters covering the entire back of his ears. Roe brought him to the office of Dr. Greene, who soon opened the blisters and applied the proper remedies and the poor felloe soon was himself again. After some chattering to each other they again took the road, each carrying one hundred pounds or over and will no doubt pass the next night through the generosity of some neighboring town or friendly straw stack, little dreaming of the hardships of we who have paid out gas bills, yet have no gas, heating stoves but no heat, cooking stoves but no cooking, so that we mty yet covet the life of a dago, even though he may have frozen ears.
