WHITESVILLE.

Mrs. James Sanders visited her father at Crawfordsvilie Friday. Jake Everson, of Crawfordsvilie. visited here from Saturday until Tuesday.

John Armstrong and family were called to Crawfordsvilie ou account of the illness of Wm. Fisher.

Seymour and Jeff Jones, J. C. Goodbar. John Uoble. jr., Wm. Smith, Cbas. ICverson, Isham Williams and sou Henry, Jasper Faust, Chas. Bratton and John 1-irry were at Crawfordsvilie Saturday.

There will be a Mardi Gras at the school house Saturday night, Jan. 23, given by the Christian church. Admission five ami ten cents. Come, and tell everybody you see to do likewise, and tell them to tell everybody they see to coine, it is money spent in a good cause.

PINE BLUFF.

Uessie Foust is on the sick list. Ask Frank and Elmer Ohadwick if t^ey eyer got left. 11. C. Finch spent Saturday and Sunday in Yankeetown.

H. B. Engle is ver.f much interested in the Foust estate. There will be several moves made the latter part of next month.

Frank Foust is making preparations to build a new summer kitchen. The Mace string band say they will ie ready to play for Decoration day,

Lige Bennett, who was almost killed by his son-in-law, was able to come to town Tuesday.

Our band met Monday night, They make excellent inu6ic considering the practice they have had.

The little daughter of James Wilder and wife is getting better after a severe attack of measles^

Geo. M. Bowman, a jolly fellow whose presence always makes one feel good, gave a call Sunday.

It is feared the measles will get in our school, but the teacher i6 taking every precaution to prevent it.

We were careless and thoughtless for once, but 1 will say forever and hereafter friends nothing more goes.

We apologize for the item which appeared in our last week's letter. It was handed to us by |a friend, and we did not think nor do we yet think that it was intended for a slur on anybody's character. We don't think people should make applications to themselves or ride a high horse when it don't concern them in the least.

BROWN'S VALLEY.

Mr. Jim Layne has the grip. Mrs. Thomas Williams has the grip. Mrs. Fannie Gofl is on th sick list Mrs. Martha Goff was on the sick list last week.

Mrs Emma Buser and son Clyde are on the sick list. Mr. Jap Rice, of VV'aveland. was in town Saturday night.

Mr. G. F. Patton weut to Crawfordsvilie last week on business. G. S. Davis and wife went to Crawfordsvilie last week on business.

T1 social at Edgar Robertson's Monday night wab well attended. Mrs. Ann Clements, of Crawfordsvilie, is visiting relatives here for a short time.-

Mrs. Jennie Davis and daughter Winnie are visiting relatives at Frankfort this week.

Mr. Barney Ammerman. of Ladoga, was the guest of Miss Minnie Davis Sunday evening.

Mr. Charley Kincafe is on the sick list and is in a very bad condition and is not expected to live.

The social at Uarve Cothran's Thnrs day night was well attended. It- was given in honor of Miss Blanche Murphy, of Terre Haute.

The friends and neighbors of James Clements gathered in Monday evening and cut liis wood for this winter as his family is in such a bad condition. \'r. Clemants to be pitied He desires to thank his frienis and neighbors for their kindness they havo doue for him.

The social and party at Israel Wilkinson's Tuesday night was a grand success and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves well.

Frank Johnston will give a box supper at No. 10 school house Friday eve ning, Jan. 22. He will have a spelling and ciphering match to which he will give two prizes. G. W. Hartman and wife and Jim Lane and Clay Owens will furnish the music. Everybody iscordially invited to attend and enjoy themselves.

The Modern Woodmen, of this place, give the most successful supper here Saturday night that was ever given here before- The hall was crowded and the tables were loaded down with good things to eat. They cleared S15. G. W. Hartman and wife and Jim Layne and Clay Owens furnished the music. Everyone seemed to have a grand time and there never was a supper here before that every one seemed to enjoy so well as this one. Rev. Prather and Frank Johnston gave an eloquent talk on the secret lodges for the benefit of the ladies, for you know it is always said that a woman can't keep a secret, but I think that is all a mistake a woman can keep a secret sometimes better than the men. 1 think that it is about as hard for one to keep a secret as it is for the other

Lew Dukes was in Frankfort Tuesday. Wm. Cook was in Frankfort Mon day.

Frank Powers, of Lafayette, was in town Tuesday. The Chief Manufacturing Co. has shut down for a while.

Miss Lydia Morgan, of Clark's Ilill, visited her parents this week. Misses Lula Williams, Pearl Richey and Blanch Clark are ou the sick list

John»Gerry has purchased a new trombone horn. It is a tine instrument.

The band boy.s will soon form an orchestra of eight pieces in connection with the band.

Rev. Horton, of the Presbyterian church, preached to the M. E. church Sunday evening.

M. M. Smock and family will move to Lafayette soon, where Mr. Smock will manage a feed stable.

Jake Roudebush, the blacksmith, has been laying off for the last month, the result of ati -injury received on the hand.

Messrs. Lute Moore and Ray Bar tholomew wili soon have a full crop of whiskers. They are rather young to be old men.

Several of the farmers east of town have had a number of sheep killed by dogs. They should be allowed damages for the same.

Prof. Geo. Long, a former professor of the schools at this place, is making a good canvas for county superintendant of Wabash county.

The following are the new officers of the Epwotth League: President—Rebecca Parish.

Treasurer—Maud liosenberger. Secretary—Mrs. Dr. Coon. It has not been made public yet as to who Mr. Shaffer will have to manage his paper here, but it is rumored they will be A. C. McKinsey, a former young man of this place, L. B. Moore and Miss Emma Bradburn, of this place.

Ask Bert Fuller what his attraction is at Wesley Several of the scholars were tardy Monday morning.

Miss Ida Moore is staying at G. W. Bratton's this week. Vint Edward will work for John Remley next summer.

Miss Grace Remley who has been visiting in Ohio returned home laBt week.

Charles Rice and family spent Sunday with William Robinson and family.

Mrs. Ben Welch, of Garfield, is attending the bedside of her mother, Mrs. Cyntha Bratton.

Thomas Parson, Albert Luce, Milton and Albert Wilkinson cut and hauled wood for Tod Clark last Thursday.

Milton Wilkinson and family, of this place, attended the birthday dinner Saturday of his brother, John Wilkinson, of Garfield.

Aunt Cyntha Bratton was stricken •with paralysis on last Thursday and is lying very low at this writing. Iler recovery is doubtful.

Fred Remley and wife, John Remley and family, Robt. Green and family, Ed Remley and family, Frank Remley and wife spent Sunday with Clate Remley and family.
