Quite a number of our citizens are complaining- of the grip. John Best is in Sullivan county this week looking for a location.

Mrs. Cyrus Cunningham was called to Wingate Monday to attend her daughter, Mrs. George Welly, who was suffering with quinsy. She is reported better at this time.

The Tiger Valley correspondent told in last weeks issue that T. A. Armstrong had shipped 73,280 rabbits this winter. This would at one shot to each rabbit be 73,2S0 shots and at 2D shells to the box would 2.931 boxes and 5 shells at 4 eeuts a box the cost of the shells would be SI, 17'-' 40. l'rettylarge isn't it?

The sick of this vicinity are improving slowly. Miss Katie Worth is working for Bennett Taylor.

Mrs. 01 Delashmidt has been quite sick for some time. Henry Wilson has rented his farm and will move to Frankfort in the spring.

Chas. Swick has returned from Iowa. He has ranted a farm there and wilt move to it.

Wm. Jinks, who has been working with a fence gang at Ridge Farm, III., returned home last Monday for the winter.

J. B. Stanley, the noted detective and gospel temperance evangelist, closed a series of lectures to overflowing houses, with a gospel temperance Christian inspiration. There were two hundred additions by card representing the best families in tlys community. Silas Peterson and his indorsement gave fresh courage to many and new life to the I. O. G. T. lodge A Juvenile Temple was thoroughly organized with Mrs. Elgin Homey as superintendent. In ail the wondrous lectures the name of Democrat, Republican, Populist, Prohibitionist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Christian, Baptist, not even 10 to 1 was mentioned, his main object was-to hold Christ and Satan vividly before the people w:si

John Phillips moved Wednesday to the house formerly occupied by Geo. P-tt-o near Potts' school house. Cnas. I at'on will occupy the house he vacated ia the spring.

YOUNTSVILLE.

The sick folks of this place are all on the mend. The protracted meeting at this place progresses nicely.

George Grubbs will move to his farm near Pine Hills in March. All will agree that this winter weather is all that could be desired.

The Ladies' Sewing Society will meet at Mrs. W. O'Neall's this afternoon.

The farmerB of this vicinity are marketing at a low estimate eight tons of hay per day.

Arthur Yount has gone to Chicago to travel for the Goodyear Kubber Co We hope it's a go.

Miss Fannie Watson proposes to teach a subscription school for us after the short term expires.

The man that stole liill Hurley's bird dog will save trouble for all concerned by returning him within the next seven days.

funds to pay teachers. It is claimed by those informed that this part of Indiana, and more especially Montgomery connty, is well adapted to the culture of beets for sugar. Now why can't the farmers get up some kind of a breeze in that direction? The low price for other farm products would he a strong argument for the agitation of the subject at least.

Measles is getting plentiful. Henry Ronk and wife visited in Lafayette Sunday.

C. C. McDaniel went to Kirkpatrick Saturday night. Rev. F. P. Trotter, of Darlington, visited friends here Monday.

Mrs. Susan Wainscott, of Illinois, is visiting her father, Wm. Utterbaek. Miss Mollie Sullivan went to her home in Frankfort Sunday afternoon.

Quillen Johnson, of Greencastle. returned home Tuesday after a visit of several days here.

Mrs. Laura Case, of New Mexico, arrived at W. W. Tiffany's on Wednesday to visit a few days.

Rev. W. H. Broonifield, of Morocco, onr Methodist minister last year, was here two days last week.

L. P. Britton came down from Frankfort Sunday to see his wife and son, who are visiting here.

J. S. Fendley, of Danville, 111., is spending a few days here in the interest of the Modern Woodmen.

John McCorkle went toChicage Sunday afternoon and brought home two caa loads of cattle to feed for spring market.

A. B. Patton, who was called to Lafayette last week to attend the funeral of his sister's child, returned home Sunday morning.

Mrs Hanson Kendall, who has been seriously indisposed, was taken to Wavnetown Friday in hopes that it might improve her health.

Two of our teachers were not able for duty Monday morning, but Miss Lulu Horinell reported for duty Tuesday. Mrs. Welty, however, who teaches the sixth and seventh year trrades, has bean sick with quinsy all the week.

Orvil Mitchell is laid up with rheumatism. The old lady Cowan is some better at this writing. yV-

Lew Foot and Minnie Vancleave called on Nettie Allen Tuesday. Isom Mitchell traded his span of mules to Howard Dewey for a horse.

John Cowan, of Covington, is attending tiie bedside of his mother. Allen Moore sold twenty head of steers to Follick, of Waynetown, for 31.000.

Mr. Cynth, of Dayton, Ohio, is canvassing the county taking oroers for groceries

Mr Francis, of Illinois, is stopping with A1 Utterbaek and wife. lie is looking for a farm.

Winford Swiney sold his hogs to Charle.v Grinnard, of Wingate, and delivered them Tuesday.

Misses Isophine Alston and Gertie Miller visited the Potts school last Friday.

The Sunday school at Liberty was very well attended considering t*he weather.

Our Elmdale correspondent has surely crawled out of the mud by this time by the last report.

There will be preaching at the Bap tist church Saturday night, Sunday and Sunday night.

Misses Maudie Grubb and Gertie Miller spent Satnrdav night and Sunday with Miss May Fuller.

The pie supper was a success. The cake was awarded to Miss Beauty Aikman, of Crawfordsville.

Mr. White, of Frankfort, nephew of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Canine, paid them a pleasant visit at their country home Tue^d^y and Wednesday.

Miss Luella Douglas gave a music party Tuesday night. Excellent music was rendered by the string band and the evening was one long to be remembered.

Mr. Weaver and family, of near Waynetown, were the guests of Mr, Myres' the fore part of the week.

Prayer meeting at Ridge Farm Saturday night, January 30. Every body come and help along with the good work.

Eston Musser, while coming from the social last Saturday night, had another serious misfortune. The top fell off of his buggy.

Carl Vanduyn, Wat Ham, Paul Campbell and Claude Stonebraker, of Alamo, attended prayer meeting here Saturday night.

Miss Ida Weaver and sister, of near Waynetown,visited MissAnnie Myers.a charming young lady of this vicinity, the latter part of the week.

The fox drive last Saturday was a success. It was announced then that there would be another drive, Saturday, January 23. Everybody turn out and make it more profitable than the last one.

Last Sunday morning while Austin and James Bruner and Eston Musser had finished their hard weeks work, thought they would go to the woods and see what fun they could have while the sun was shining brignt. They dug out three skunks and were accompanied by Frauk Ingersol, who did the killing.

NEW MARKET.

The prevailing subject under discussion at this place is "gas." Whether it will be surface or natural gas remains to be seen.

The sick are: Mrs. Jas. Brown, Louis Haverkamp, Mrs. Samuel Kelsey, Jack Rush, Van Vancleave, and Mrs. Louis Haverkamp.

Mr. Ferguson will soon move to Veedersburg, where he will haul logs and work in the interest of the wire fence, of which he is a partner in Fountain county.

Monday being Mrs. Samuel Kelsey's birthday, Jas. Bell and family, Milton Demoret and wife and Miss Enolia Demoret, with well tilled baskets, met at Mrs. Kelsey's and gave her a surprise. The day was spent in conversation and the guests departed in the evening wishing Mrs. Kelsey many another such happy birthday.

A meeting was held in Fletcher hall to hear the report of Messrs. Armentrout and Miller on the gas question. They have been in the gas field for the last week. The meeting was not an entire failure as it was shown that the gas that had been struck in several wells here was marsh gas. A com-
