The farmers are working on their peaches this week. Ambrose Glover, of Russellville, is visiting Eli Grimes.

W. 13. Lydick has moved on his new place near Penobscot. H. G. Evans is cutting clover seed. The clover is well tilled.

W. II. Long and family, of Ladoga, are visiting here this week. Stan Bishop, of Crawfordsville, visited Samuel Galey this week.

Eli Grimes and wife visited Joe Allen, in Parke county, Sunday. Sam Grimes will work for George Vice this fall at S17 per month.

Uncle Jiin Fisher and wife attended church at I'arkersburg Sunday. Robert IJrumfield has moved in with Mrs. Margaret Grimes and will farm there.

Wm. Lydiclc will move in his new house east of Brown's Valley this week.

John Gott went down to Brown's Valley Tuesday to have his life insured.

J. H. Allen is plowing for wheat on Samuel Galey's farm. He will plant 30 acres.

Mort Shrader and wife are the happy parents of a 10 pound baby girl, born August 25.

There will be a colt show and horse race at Mort Stirader's to-morrow (Saturday.)

Clarence Walden, of Kentucky, visited Mame rimes Saturday and attended the ice cream supper.

Roe Michaels will move to Crawfordsville next week. James Michaels will move into the house he vacates.

The ice cream supper at George E. Grimes' Saturday night was well attended, SO-50 being the receipts, which go to the Epworth Leag'uc.

Charley Frame, Walter Taylor, C. M. Doyle and Jim Kennedy took their best girls to the ice cream supper Saturday evening at George Grimes'.

Bob Straughan says it is a, mistake about him being a free silver man. He says he does not see how any man can vote with the Democrats this Fall.

Alva Doyle fell from the top of a barn he was building for Robert Frame last week and bruised himself considerably, but fortunately broke no bones.

The scribe will return to his old habit of writing for the good old JotntXAij. Let everybody read this good Republican paper and gain knowledge thereby.

W. H. Lear, of Russellville, drove up to Swamp College Friday to see some fast races. He did not participate in the races on account of the free silver contest at Brown's Valley.

Wayne Shelton has returned from Indianapolis. Sunday school is progressing nicely at this place.

Ira Henry, of Young's Chapel, is the owner of a new buggy. Dan Goble and family visited Thos. Jennings and wife last Sunday.

Meeting here at the Baptist church was well attended last Sunday. We are informed that Mollie Hoover has our school again this winter.

Our congratulations are extended to Willard Binford and Miss Maud Johnston.

Mr. and Mrs. John Cox visited John Hedge and wife near Crawfordsville last Tuesday.

There will not be any meeting here at the Baptist church the second Sunday in this month.

Wm. Ilhoads and family spent Saturday and Sunday at Bellmore. Frank Armstrong has purchased some timber from John Linn.

Mack Francis, of Gravelly Run, spent Monday night at J. M. Walkup's. Rev. Williamson will preach at Union Hill next Sunday morning and night.

Mr. Crowder, of Yankeetowu, passed through here last Tuesday with some porkers.

The school at this place will begin one week from next Monday with Miss Ollie Lollis as teacher.

Misses Lillie Foust, Flora and Ditha Thompson and Allie Finch returned home Monday after spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Clark, at Colfax.

The prayer meeting Wednesday evening was led by Clyde and Ernest Loop. The meeting will be held in the Christian church at Mace on next Wednesday night. All are invited to attend.

Thos. Cash, of Ladoga, is working for John Fletcher.. Miss Minnie Armstrong, who has been visiting in Hillsboro, returned last week.

Misses Edith and Edna 'Bowen returned to their home in Lebanon Thursday.

J. F. Dice and wife spent Tuesday in Crawfordsville, at Mrs. Amanda Brockman's.

The party at Eli Chadwick's last Thursday night was well attended. All had a very enjoyable time.

A number of the farmers are cutting corn. It is thought there will be con siderable corn cut this season.

Curtis Edwards, John Morris, Lee Chadwick, Lola Linn, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Linn are on the sick list.

Mrs. Esta Britton, of Crawfordsville, was the guest of her brother, Lewis Rayle, and wife, last Saturday and Sunday.

Mr. Henry, who has been suffering from a cancer of the lip, is seemingly better. Hopes are entertained of his permanent cure.

Some of the boys have been visiting the peach orchards in this vicinity. They tl. ink they are not known, but they had better beware.

The Mace M. E. Sunday school last Sunday elected for the ensuing year the following officers:

Mack Wherley has some nice hogs which average 225. Fletch Wherley's baby has been very sick, but is better now.

Plowing for wheat and hulling clover seed is the order of the day. Miss Rena Brown has returned from Indianapolis, where she has been for four months.

Several from hereaie going to Parke county to attend the association of the Baptise denominations.

James Ashwell is having some new Keystone patent fence built by Dan Hobson, of New Market.

Several have commenced to cut corn. There is one man that through cutting. The corn is down very bad.

Little Mary McCormack had her arm broken Monday. She got on the buck board and the pony started to run throwing her off.

Frank McCormack was up in Hen dricks county last week, taking his sorghum to the mill. He had II loads, He thinks he will have about 70 gal Ions.

Doc Sandlin met with a very painful accident Saturday night. He went to take his handkerchief out of his pocket and his revolver was discharged, the bullet passing through the calf of his leg. *.„•

Mrs. John Holloway is sick with malarial fever. Frank Custer attended the Frankfort fair last Friday.

J. E. Hamilton visited friends in Crawfordsville and Frankfort last week.

G. D. Snyder and family visited friends in Frankfort the first of the week.

Mrs. Mollie Irons, of Crawfordsville came up to visit her mother,Mrs. John Holloway Monday.

Chas. Custer, wife and daughter Irene, Sundayed with Newt Campbell and family, near Campbell's Chapel.

Mr. and Mrs. Shipp, who have been visiting Mrs. Brooks and family, re turned to their home at Boswell, Ind., Monday.

Tom Holloway accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. It. 0. Harper, will attend the National Encampment at St. Paul, and also visit a son and brother who lives at that place.

Mr. and Mrs. Will Dixon, of Kingsley's Chapel, visited at Mr. Tribbett's Saturday night, and accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Tribbett were entertaiuen at the. pleasant home of Mr, and Mrs. W. H. Custer Sunday.

Mrs. Murray is very sick. Frank Kinder has a new wheel. Miss Sarah Pressly is some better. Grandma Brown is slowly improving.

Mrs. Dr. Harvey is visiting at Bridgeton this week. Miss Mabel Brown, of Rosedale, is visiting relatives here.

Miss Lou Gardner is visiting friends and relatives in Ladoga. Harlen Pitts has gone to Waveland to work in a restaurant.

Frank Pressly and family, of Judson, spent Sunday with home folks. Ben Rountree, of Crawfordsville, is visiting at uncle Jesse Fordyce's.

Claude Jarvis left Monday for Val paraiso to attend school this winter. Arthur Matthews left for his home in the north part of the State,Wednesday

Mr. and Mrs. Kelly are visiting home folks in the south part of the State this week.

Mrs. Lydia Conner and Miss Daisy Forgey went Wednesday to attend the Association near Parkville.

The ball game hero Saturday between Marshall and Russellville's first nine was well attended, the latter winning by a score of 22 to l'.i.

RURAL ROADS.

Clover hulling is in full blast now. Some corn cut this week and lots of wheat sown.

Edwards & Linn shipped two car loads of stock Tuesday. Miss Ethel Edwards visited friends near lvingsley's Chapel, Sunday.

There are several eases of fever in this vicinity, some of them serious. Messrs. Wilhite and Franklin and Misses Duke and Carver spent Sunday with relatives in Ladoga.

Ou last Sunday Rev. Grimes preached his last sermon at Mace for the present conference year, his subject being '"Gratitude."

Rev. Elmer Shaver will preach in the Flat Creek school next Saturday night, and Sunday night he will occupy the pulpit at Kingsley's Chapel.

Last Sunday morning the familiar face of the Fast Mail scribe was missed from its usual place in tho front row at Sunday school. On the Thursday before ho had been kicked by a horte and was not ablo to leave the house, but now he is around as usual.

Mrs. Weaver's house is nearing completion and will soon be ready for this wortny lady to occupy. During the past two months a paper had been circulated oyer this section of Walnut township asking subscriptions toward building this house. When enough was secured the work was commenced and a comfortable little cottage is the result.

Saturday evening as James Durbin, Geo. Hugelheim and Chas. McClure were returning from Crawfordsville the horse they were driving ran oft' the embankment at the foot of the Weliever hill, and as a result the buggy is in ruins and Mr. McClure is suffering from an ugly scalp wound. It was at first thought that Mr. Durbin had been hurt internally but this proved untrue.

KACCOON.

Tom Darnall's house east of town is assuming shape. Wallace Coshow is quite sick with an attack of bilious fever.

Prof. Hurst will move this week into the Albert Smith property. Chas. Edwards has sold quite a lot of fertilizer to our wide awake farmers.

A1 Williams took a load of potatoes to Crawfordsvill for Cy Gill, Saturday. Miss Mattie Lawrence, of Danville, Ind., visited friends here over Sunday.

Mr. Day and family, of Bainbridge, are visiting relatives here before school begins.

Sherman Williams has returned from Bridgeton, where he has been visiting and attending the fair.

Mrs. Henry Fall and children were the guests of John Fall and family at Crawfordsville over Sunday.

Dr. W. F. Summers and father, of Groveland, consulted Dr. Greene fct Crawfordsville last Saturday.

Parties are forming to go to Parke county after peaches, where they are reported plentiful and cheap.

Rev. A. W. Wood preached his farewell sermon for the conference year to a large audience last Sunday.

John Shannon attended the races in Illinois last week. Russ Ridley had charge of the otlice during his absence.

Foster Shannon is expected home this week from Blooomingdale, where he has been acting as agent for the I D. & W. Ry.

A crowd of young 'folks went from here to attend a farewell social given by Miss Alma Nichols, of Parkersburg, before they left for Crawfordsville.

Harry Dauglierty has moved into John Brown's house on Main street. John Taylor's baby died Friday and was buried Saturday at Ladoga cemetery.

Charley Fullen and wife, of Indiana polls, were visiting his mother here last week.

Harris Bros, have bought Ed Drake's dray. Ed sold his house and lot to •las. Britts.

Baclielder & Hughes have repainted their house near the C. it S. E. depot. Mr. Lister will occupy it.

The Baptists had a roll call and reunion at their church here Monday, and it was an interesting meeting.

Mrs. Edna Robbins and children visited at Wm. Harshbarger's in Wave-, land from Friday until Monday.

Mrs. Smith, wife of Perry Smith, died Friday night and was buried Sunday at the Stoner cemetery. Funeral by L. E. Murray.
