Hawkin Sellers is not able to get to town yet. Sam Calfee is visiting his mother at this place.
Jack Pointer moved to Alamo on last Wednesday. Ora Enoch attended Sunday school at the West school house.
J. H. Downs went to Walter Foust's on Tuesday to buy hogs. Endeavor met Tuesday night for the first time in three weeks.
Messrs. Barley and Clark, of Muncie, are visiting Vincent Clark. Rev- Weathford will preach here on the third Sunday in January.
The meetings at Mace and Garfield were well attended from here. Wm. McFreeley and son are cutting wood on the H. Seller's place.
There was a business meeting at the Christian church on Friday night. Charley Miller went to the K. P. lodge at Mace on Thursday night.
Bill Smith, of Alamo, visited relatives here Saturday night and Sunday. Ed Welch and Miss Pet Posey went to lodge at Crawfordsville Thursday night.
Jacob and Charley Miller and J- H. Downs took their hogs to market last Monday.
If the rumors are true, there will be one and perhaps two weddings in anuary.
Mr. Wade, wife and daughter, of Hillsboro, are visiting Mr. McFeeley and wife.
Miss Pet Posey attended the Drummers' banquet at the Robbins House on Monday night.
Our school teecher. Miss Mollie Hoover, spent the holidays at her home at Crawfordsville.
Misses Josie Grfeen and May Foust spent Saturday night and Sunday at Abe Foust's at Garfield.
Frank Smith and Miss Lida Green attended the oyster supper at Kingleys Chapel Friday night.
Mrs. Eliza Hipes has returned home, after a visit with her niece, Mrs. John Castor, of Kingsley Chapel.
The boys are happy since the creek has frozen over and now they spend nearly all the time skating.
Miss Maggie Butler has returned to her home at Gravelly Run after a short visit with her grandma, Mrs. Green.
Samuel Griffin and family and Aaron Griffin have returned to their home at Gas City, after a visit with their father.
Ed Welsh says his house is a down right Methodist. He got a whole bucket of water poured on him Monday night.
Our obedient huckster, Ezba Armstrong, failed to appear last Friday. He possibly had not got back from Boone county yet.
E. R. Welsh and Ben Shelton drew a fine gold watch at Barnhill's, and now they feel as proud as a little boy. with his first pair of red top boots.

McFeeley and family, Mrs. Newkirk, and Herbert and Earnest Newkirk. Enos O'Conner's horse got tired of waiting for him last Sunday evening, and broke loose from where he was hitched at the store. It got as far as the blacksmith shop when Tom Finch rushed out in front of him and danced a jig that was a credit to a "Topsy in Uncle Tom's Cabin." The horse became so frightened at the dancing that he was easily caught, and led back to his owner. Therefore, no one was hurt, nothing injured, but Tom Fink had lost considerable amount of breath.
MACE.
Henry Chadwick is now postmaster. The basket supper was almost a failure.
W. E. Baker Sundayed at Charles Crain's. W. A. Wallace is visiting '/Patsy" Edwards.
Meeting at the Christian church Sunday night. Mrs. Quinn and son, of Lafayette, aro visiting here.
Rev. Weatherford is holding a meeting at Ward. George Hugelheim returned to Fairland Monday.
Busy Ross will work for Wheeler Linn this summer, Protracted meeting will commence at Union Tuesday night.
The party at Andrew Smiley's New Year's eve was a very pleasant affairHarvey Linn will start west just as soon as he can close up his business affairs.
The postoffice is now between the wholesale house and the hotel just north of the public well.
TIGER VALLEY.
Our roads are in good condition. Rabbits here are very plentiful. John Perry is still husking corn. R. Finch went to Darlington Tuesday. 'J
Protracted meeting1 has closed at Mace. Bruce Morris was in Thorntown Saturday.
Melvin Faust is hauling wood for J. Lockerige. Bert Remley talks of going to Pittsboro soon.
The saw mill at Mace has shut down for repairs. Ask Rice Kennedy how he got left Monday evening.
T. R. Lockridge purchased a fine hog at Kokomo last week. Bertie Linn will learn the carpenter's trade next summer.
The hunting gang of Mace captured forty-five rabbits Saturday. Frank Broach is hauling wood from W. Rise's place this week.
Sherman Vanscoyoc says he is bound to receive those forty acres. The Tiger Valley boys are ready for another box supper, New Ross.
William Ilopson will take a course through business college soon. The oyster supper at Kingsley's Friday night was well attended.
Everson's teams from Crawfordsville are again hauling logs from here. Protracted meeting will begin at Union Hill one week from next Sun day.
The scholars from this place presented their teacher with a fine muffler Xmas.
Cox, Elmore and Caster passed through here Tuesday with a fine lot of hogs.
Miss May Finch, of Jamestown, and Miss Viola Walker, spent last week with Zack Walker.
The hog cholera has abated here for the present. Some of our farmers have lost from §700 to $800 worth of liogs. We are glad to see the tide turn for the better.
This is our first letter to THE JOURNAL for 1895. Let us see how near we can come to writing one for each week until this time next year. We are expecting another grand reunion and every subscriber should pay close attention to what its fellow correspondents have to say. At the home of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Smiley New Year's eve a crowd of young folks, numbering forty, met for the purpose of surprising their daughter, Lena. The night will long be remembered by those present. Refreshments were served, consisting of apples, oranges, bananas and candy. The house was filled with vocal and instrumental music. They have our sincere thanks for their kindness and hospitality. Bidding each other good night, the erowd left rejoicing over the delightful affair. May they all live to again meet and enjoy another such a grand time.
Rev. Plunkett preached his farewell sei mon at the Christian church of Mace last Sunday week. He had preached at that church three years and was highly respected. During his act of preaching the members of that church purchased a gold headed cane and gare it to Dr. Julian Berry, who presented it to Rev. Plunkett. No one could have made a better presentation speech. In reply Mr. Plunkett made a speech that brought tears to the eyes of the congregation. Mr. Plunkett will preach at Dover the coming year, instead of Mace. The members ®f that church wish him success wherever he goes.
GARFIELD. $
We have a few ceses of hog cholera in our midst. We wonder who will be the next victim at Darlington.
Oscar Martin is building an addition to the ex-parsonage. A. W. Mote, of Darlington, attended church here Sunday.
The Garfield Hunting Club indulged in a fox hunt Tuesday. Miss Eaisy'Currie visited the Darlington schools Monday.
Signs denote a wedding in the north end in the near future. Will Flannigan, of Crawfordsville, spent Suuday with C. Morrison.
Allen Hendricks and son hunted rabbits with Harry Freeman the first of the' week.
Wilson Sands has rented his farm to Bison Cox and will move to Darlington in the spring.
Ches Champion has posted his farm against Crawfordsville students, so take warning.
Denton Cox is in poor health. He will spend the winter with his father, Lieut. E. H. Cox.
Rev. Troxiel, of Veedersburg, is assisting A. W. Wainscott. in the protracted meeting.
The East Garfield scribe has the grip, or has lost it. At least we do not hear from him often.
Frank Conrad, our merchant, has turned over from a Populist to a Prohibitionist. What next?
Oren Mote has returned after a week's visit with friends and relatives in the east part of the State.
School began Wednesday after a two weeks'vacation and.if the last is as good as the first we will have to complaint to offer.
Frank Morrison was the victim of a surprise Wednesday. Thirty-six of his neighbors and friends partook of a sumptuous uinner, it being his twen-ty-seventh mile stone.
WELLS YILLE.
llanmbal Finch spent last Sunday in Mace. Martin took his best girl to church Sunday night.
Protracted meeting will begin a,t Union Hill Sunday, Jan. 13. Ora and Ezba Armstrong passed through here last Sunday.
Henry Hankins and family spent New Years in Boone county. The Wilson Bros, sold some hay to McClure & Hankins last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Cavot visited at J. M. Walkup's last Thursday night. Earl Perry will do patch work and repairing for Mr. Lollis this winter.
Several from here attended the surprise party at Mr. Smiley's last Monday night.
Misses May Finch and Belle Robbins visited at John Finch's last Tuesday night.
Meeting closed at the Mace Christian church last Sunday night with one addition.
Robert Brace, of Crawfordsville, visited friends at Orth last Sunday and Monday.
J. M. Walltup shipped some fine chickens to Tippecanoe county last Monday.
Some of the young folks from this place attended the oyster supper at Kingsley's Chapel last Friday night.
Misses Eunice Broomfield and Florence Brent, who have been visiting at Mrs. Perry's, returned to Pittsboro last Friday.
Hannibal Finch and sister, Earl Perry, Florence Brent, Eunice Broomfield were guests of Miss Ollie and Bert Remley last Thursday night.
The persons who are in the habit of coming to church and talking had better mend their ways before they get into trouble. The members of the church are not going to stand this always.
OAK GROVE.
L. R. Butler is able to be about after a several weeks' sickuess. T. R. Mount and wife, of Indianapolis, spent the holidays with relatives here.
Miss Sophia Himes. of Ladoga, has just concluded a visit with friends here.
J. M. Hopper has leased the R. B. Watkins farm and will take possession immediately.
Elmer Shaver occupied the pulpit at Shannondale last Sunday in the absence of the pastor, to the edification of a large audience.
Mrs. M. M. Nelson returned to her home near Bainbridge Wednesday, after a two weeks' visit with her parents, W. H. Mount and wife.
Three young men from Thorntown accompanied three of our young ladies in their watch for the departure of the old and advent of the New Year.
The Ben-Hur reading circle will meet at W. C. Miller's Monday evening, Jan. 14. An interesting programme arranged includes discussion of Terry's •'Our Farming" and Fiske's "War of Independence."
Many people have expressed themselves in favor of a change in regard to the time of township trustees coming into office. If there is to be a new superintendent next June Franklin township would be proud to see her aspirant, W. E. Slavens occupying that office. He has taught school for several years and no one doubts his qualifications.
A bit of a country woman's experience, not personal: She takes a basket of nice butter in pound prints to the grower who tells her the prints seldom weigh a pound and piles them altogether on the scales and pays her 14 cents each for the number of pounds the scales register. Ten minutes later another woman comes in and buys of the same butter, one print, which has in the meantime we suppose enlaaged into a beautiful full pound, for she pays 20 cents for it and the grocer tells her it is "extra."
COTTAGE GROVE.
Mr. and Mrs. Snyder went to Illinois Friday, where they will visit relatives and friends.
Mrs. Snyder, of Frankfort, who has been visiting her son, of this place, returned Tuesday.
Mr. Hayes' class will not have a box supper for a while yet. We are not certain as to the exact date.
Miss June Irons was pleasantly surprised by her Sunday school class and teacher last Friday evening. Refreshments were served and a royal good time was enjoyed by all.
Mr. and Mrs. Snyder entertained a number of friends and relatives last Thursday. The principal feature of the day was prepared and served in that manner in which Mrs. Snyder excells. A very pleasant time was enjoyed by those present.
Mr. and Mrs. Harper gave a taffy pulling at their pleasant home last Monday evening in honor of their son, Charles, and daughter, Florence. The time was pleasantly and happily spent. Several remained until the new year came im. Miss Florence will stttend suchool at Taylor University the rest of the winter.
BOWERS.
Isaac Woodard went to Indianapolis on Tuesday on business. Ed E. Hamilton shipped a carload of corn to Toledo, Monday.
Postmaster Woodard received the office the first of the year. Mifs Gracie Glowser is the guest of her brothers at Darlington. I
Mur Jecoby and wifa, of near Boston Store, are visiting Lewis Kirk. Geo. Pyles and family, of Cason, were guests of Dr. Ware on Sunday.
Miss Josie Hamilton will go on next Monday to Frankfort, where she will reside with her mother.
Dr. Ware went to Darlington on last Wednesday evening to have his scalp lifted by the I. O. R. M.
Nath Lewis visited his best girl at Conroe on Sunday, and brought her home with him to see how she would like the climate. He and uncle Sile Dunbar are two gay old coons.-
Mrs. Francis Heffner died of consumption on Jan. 1 after along period of suffering. She bore her affliction with a meek Christian patience. She leaves a husband aud four little children with many relatives and friends to mourn her departure. Her remains were interred at Brunswick, Ind.
We wish to correct a mistake that occurred in our last week's items in regard to the marriage of Frank Waugh, which should have read Miss Nora Stucky, instead of Miss Emma Stucky as the bride. Miss Emma will please excuse us, as we were probably thinking of Marshall's new heuse when we made the blunder.
Mrs. Sylvia White, the unfortunate bride of Daniel White, who is now in the Boone county jail for theft, attempted to commit suicide at her father's, Allen Davis, by swallowing nearly an ounce of chloroform on New Years morning, but medical aid was summoned in time to save her life. She is young and brooding over the conduct of her husband, she became despondent and committed the rash act.

G. W. Swisher is preparing to build a new barn. A1 Young celebrated New Year's day butchering hogs.
At present the straw balers are located at G. W. Swisher's. Mrs. C. F. Martin spent a part of last week with Lebanon friends.
Will Rogers, of Boone county, is calling at J. W. McLaughlin's. Several of our ladies mourn the loss of their flowers since the cold snap.
G. W. Swisher for the present is engaged in shipping a car load of hogs. Gid Higgins killed two foxes Saturday. One of W. T. Beck's favorites.
R. W. Bratton, of Poland China fame, was taken in by Arkansas sharps last week.
Mr. Wm. Mount and wife, of Indianapolis, who have been visiting at E. C. Mount's, returned home Saturday.
Albert Dixon and George Kuffman will attend the dance to-night given by the latter's brother, near New Ross.
Foster & Co. killed thirty-two rabbits Thursday of last week, and run six of them down. Who can beat that?

Thos. Fleming is cutting ice. Mrs. Jane Servis spent Tuesday in Thorntown.
Geo. Allison was in Frankfort on Wednesday. Mrs. M. C. Parisq is visiting relatives in Frankfort.
Walter, son of Wm. Morris and wife, is ill jvith lung fever. Willie Lanam, of Frankfort, is visiting his uncle, Billie Cook.
Mrs. John Smith and family, of Flora, visited at Henry Smith's on Saturday. One of our citizens lias removed to Crawfordsville, and we ought to be thankful for it.
Thomas Lanam and family spent New Years at Manson, guests of Wm. Wainscott and wife.
Miss Delia Pollett, who has been visiting here, returned on Saturday to her home at Frankfort.
Tom Allen and wife, of Lafayette, are spending a week with their daughter, Mrs. Jessie Roudybush.
Jonas Wilcox and family returned home from Danville, where they have been visiting for two weeks.
Work has begun on the well and it is 500 feet deep, but no gas yet, though we will get there bye and bye.

The Mahoy boys butchered Tuesday. Garret Snyder butchered Wednesday. Mrs. Shade Cook still grows weaker. J. A. Dodd found his aged mother very bad sick.
Frank Johnson visited his relatives during holidays. Chas. Kashner and wife spent Sunday with Shade Cook.
It was Nora Stucky instead of Emma who was married. Miss Becky Hinton spent the past week with home folks.
Oath Long and son Walter went to Crawfordsville Tuesday. Willie Smith and Miss Julia «Stucky went to Colfax Tuesday.
Miss Maggie Morrison spent Sunday with Miss Stella Johnson. Perry Marsh and wife spent Sunday with Henry Cook and family.

The oyster supper at James Maguire's Tuesday evening was a decided success.

James Miller made a supper on last Tuesday night for his friends. Orvel Mitchell and brother, Ed, spent the holidays with relatives at Remington.
A. J. Royalty, of New Market, was the guest of Isom Mitchell the first day on the new year.
Charley Goff sold his hogs to Rumon, of Waynetown, the first of the week, for $4.25 per hundred.
Ralph Vancleave, wife and daughter ate dinner with Billie Patton and family on New Year's day.
Mrs. Fitzgerald and son, of Cayuga, called on her daughter, Mrs. Charley Harmon, Saturday and Sunday.

Rite Axelander found his buggy and harness down in the road by Lee' Hays'. The supposition is that the one who stole them lt ought them back that far.
