Mix Nettie Allen was called to the bedside of her father. Mr. Etching, at Indianapolis last Monday. He is not expected 1o live.

Mrs. Tip Clough made dinner at tier home on Christmas day. It was for a family reunion of the doughs anil Swanks. The guests enjoyed themselves tine, uud all went home 111 the eveuiug feeling that it was a day well spent and one than would long be remembered.

Hessie Coons had a family reunion Christinas day, and all her father's family was present, and all her husband's people but George Coons and family. It was also her birthday, she being born on Christmas 38 years ago. She received some nice presents from her friends, Carlton Moore making the presentation speech. All seemed to have a jolly good time, and it is to be hoped all will live to have a familv reunion next Christmas.

Billy Smith and family visited Sain Coulter on Sunday. Jim Summers and Tobe llostetter were breaking a colt on Sunday.

A. J. Stone and sister made a tl.yiug visit to the southwest on Sunday. A. J. Stone was at Crawfor.dsville on Friday and Saturday of last week.

Some farmers did an unwise thing in buying the diseased sheep sent down from Chicago.

Miss Jennie Chilian made her pupils glad, on Friday of last week, by treating them to candy and oranges.

Mr. Rostetter has returned from the north part of the State, where he attended the burial of a sister.

Ask lid McCarty what bird he likes best. He will say he has liked the Wren if she dadn't got a Mote in her eye.

A tramp slept in the school house on Thursday night of last week, and next morniug called on Andy Stewart for his breakfast.

Mrs. Cope, of Linnsburg-, died on the 143d, and was buried on Tuesday, at Union cemetery. She left two sons and three daughters. "We all want to hear Lou Jackson's speech, and think it will draw a criwd from all directions, as he is highly honored in every respect.

Candy I.evvallen lost Ms day hook with some valuable papers in it last Saturday between his house and Crawfordsville. Anyone finding it will confer a favor by returning the same to him.

The friends of rs. I'arks made her a nice donation of the necessaries of life to live on. They presented to her on Christmas day. She is a widow with three children and these gifts of the good people will be very acceptable with her.

We suggest that the legislature make a law this winter forbidding any young nian to get married that has not got five hundred dollars in some bank in the county they live in. then this would teach young men who contemplate matrimony to save their money.

James Galey is doing quite a rushing business now in the way of trading horses for cows. If any one has a cow that they want to trade for a horse all they have to do is to call on James Galey and lie will accommodate them, lie means business and don't you forget it.

The patrons of Miss Mollie Hall played quite a surprise on her last Friday by going to her school with -well tilled baskets of good things to cat. They took possession of the house, spread a table the length of the room and fairly loaded it down with good things to eat. There was sixty persons, large and small ate dinner, and each one seemed to enjoy themselves. After dinner school was called to order by Miss Mollie. Then tin scholars all said their speeches, after which Miss Mollie called on Mr. Cash for a speech. He declined, and said he would rather hear from .Jaines Cilliland. .Mm said he had ate so much squash pie. that he could not talk above a whisper and that he wished to be excused. Miss Mollie thanked the patrons for their kindness they had shown her and' closed her school till after holidays.

Miss Anna Smith, of isew Richmond, is the guest of Mrs. U. M. Little. Mrs. K. M. Little and Miss Anna Smith spent Sunday with Mrs. Little's parents.

Perry Little, of Indianapolis, was visiting in this neighborhood during the holidays.

John Dodd has gone to southern part of the State to visit his mother and other relatives.

There was a Christmas tree at John Elolloway's for his grandchildren, and also a Christmas dinner.

Robert Dykes and family and Miss Anna Dykes were guests of James Dykes and family on Christmas.

Miss Alma Snyder, of Crawfordsville. was the guest of Misses Ella aud Agnes McGuire on Saturday r.nd Sunday.

The Christmas cantata, or the Cap ture of Santa Clans, at Potato Creek church, on Christmas eve. was good what there was of it.

Thomas Grey and wife celebrated their tenth anniversity on Sunday evening with an oyster supper. Only relatives were present.

Dan aud John Mahoy and sister, Alice, and Sam Huhey and family, and Tom Gray and family, ate turkey with Joe Mahoy, near Crawfordsville. on Christmas .IAMKSTOVVN.

There are certain young men who pass through here every two weeks en route to Orth, hollowing and whooping as though they never had any raising. I think if 1 was a young man and thought myself big enough

the girls I would not make so much noise on Sunday. Last Sunday wiil be forever remembered in this vicinity. Between, the hours of 11 «nd 12 a crowd of young people assembled at the residence of John Ward. A oouutiful repast was served after which the"" young people walked into the parlor where the air was filled with vocal and instrumental music. The crowd enjoyed themselves joking with one another and you may rest assured the time was pleasantly passed. There were about tifty persons present and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves.

The basket supper at l'onel's school house last Friday night was well attended from this place. After the baskets were all sold a cob pipe was put up for th ugliest man present and was awarded til Allen Johnston, of New Ross. Next, was a toilet case for the prettiest lady present, and was awarded to Miss klla Swisher, of Ortli. So New Ross has the cob pipe and Orth has the prettiest young lady and the Tiger Valley hoys have the honor of getting Miss Swisher. The prizes amounted to S'.Mi.ijo.

Marion Bowman, of Clark's Hill, was here Tuesday and received the honor for being the luckiest man that bought a chance ticket on Jake Rlacker's dressed pig. Bowman received 83.0:") for his luck.

J. L. Hienz has requested ns to sav in the Wingate letter that he is again free, having retired from business, and will be found «t home the balance of the winterdays with no reflections as to the past.

Ora Evans ate Christmas turkey with VV. H. Houck at Forest, Tuesday. Evans says that Houck is amassing quite a little fortune and has no more use for an elevator in the fertile hinds of old Montgomery county.

Married. Sunday evening at the residence of Tom Gott, in Waynetown, Rudolphus Ochiltree and Florence May Gott, Rev. Trotter officiating. Only the immediate friends of the family were present. Mr. and Mrs. Ochiltree will be at home to housekeeping in the Snyder property, first door north of the depot.

W. Points and wife dined with Jaines Points and family, of New Market. F. J. Nickell and family ate turkey and oysters at Uncle Ras. Seaman's, of North Union.

Christmas day being the fisith birthday of Mrs Seaman, of North Union, a number of her friends by invitation assembled at her home. The dinner was a success, being well cooked and well served, ami of choice viands. In the afternoon the company assembled iu the parlor, where a beautiful Christmas tree awaited them, whose branches were burdened with many gifts. Iu tlieir distribution many childish hearts, as well as older ones, were made happy.

COTTAGE GROVE.

Vacation this week and the children are happy. Charley Harper's smiling face is seen in our midst again.

John Pittman took a load of hogs to Darlington Wednesday. Miss Alma Snyder, of Darlington, visited Miss Etta Maguire Sunday.

John Haves' class will give a box supper at Potato Creek church next Monday night.

Laura Custer, Tinnie Rrooks, John Brooks and Frank Custer visited at R. C. Harper's Sunday.

The entertainment at Campbell's Chapel on Tuesday night was good. The exercises consisted of singing, recitations and tableaux. The tableaux were really fine. There were two trees well laden with presents and Santa Claus was again on hands, to the delight of the children.

The cantata given by the Sundayschool and League at Potato Creek church Monday night was a success in everj' way. Notwithstanding the inclement weather the house was comfortably tilled. The children performed their parts admirably and Santa Claus appeared, looking hale and hearty, aud bringing the treat, which gladened the hearts of the little folks. Good order prevailed.
