Rev. Smith has returned from Conference. He still remains our pastor. Curtis Hollowaf left for Bloomington Monday where he will attend college.

Misses May Woody and Pearl Hawk, of Thorntown, were in this city Sunday. Charlie Cones and wife, of near Thorntown, visited J. C. Dukes and family Sunday.

There was no school Thursday afternoon on account of the death of Mre. Joe Ulz.

F. C. Minor, principal of Minor's Business College, Ht Frankfort, was in town Friday.

Mr. Miles, the ticket agent at the depot, occupies the property vacated by Jas. Hopper.

John Bush, a former citizen of this place, but lately of Indianapolis, was in this city Saturday.

Three additions at the Christian church the last preaching. Three of the family of J. NrBritton are down with typhoid fever.

Mr. Whittaker, of Bluff Mills, has moved into Mrs. Long's house. Ed Lawrence and wife and Mrs Bart Grider returned from the World's Fair Friday.

Some of our business men attended a banquet Wednesday at Terre Haute given by a wholesale dealer.

The C. W. B. M. met at Mrs. Wray's Wednesday evening. They had an interesting meeting and at the close made their free will offering for the cause of missions.

Bert, the eighteen year old son of *ir. and Mrs. Will Hampton, living three Ailes south of here,died Saturday morning of typhoid fever. The funeral was

Last Friday evening while some boys were passing a ball in the street Frank Edwards was hit in the eye and was seriously injured.

Catharine Clark worked at Mrs. Croy's last week. The dear old school bell is heard again in the land.

Elijah Wooden contemplates quitting the dairy and returning home again. Polly Ann SkaggB and husband were the guests of Mrs. Wooden last Sunday.

A number of friends from Crawfordsville wore the guests of Mrs. Croy last Sundav.

Mr. Titus, the barber, moved to Alamo Monday. Miss Steele, of Lafayette, is visiting Laura Thayer.

Jos. Snyder and family started Tuesday morning for California. Mr.Thayer will occupy the house they vacated.

Sam McNutt has four instead of three little boys at his house since Friday. Mr. and Mrs. George Cowan and Mrs. Sarah Cowan are home from Chicago.

Miss Minnie Conners is visiting the family of Rev. L. S. Buckles at Thorntown.

Mr. and Mrs. Robbing, of Ladoga, Bre visiting their daughter, Mrs. Will Harshbarger.

W. H. JohnBon, of LeRoy, Kan., who has been visiting here two weeks, will return hom£ Saturday accompanied by hie mother, Mrs. Roberta Johnso n, who will spend the winter with him.

Mies Edith Quick, of Black Creek,' visited Wm. Remley's last Sunday. The potato crop this year is not very Urge. The average is about 35 bushels per acre.

Mr. Doyle, the Ash Pile school teacher, attended meeting here Sunday morning.

Wall Peterman and wife, once well known here, were seen in Crawfordsville last Saturday.

Grandmother Vaughn visited her daughter, Mre. Jennie Low, of Waynetown, last week.

Charley Johnson, of near Crawfordsville, assisted Rev. Stafford conduct services Sunday morning.

Marshall Pettit and wife, of Indianapolis, passed through here in a buggy last Saturday on their way to HillBboro.

Base Cowan, who has been making his home in TexaB and Kansas for several years, returned home last week. He will remain here this winter.

A few young ladies of this vicinity and the vicinity north of here, have been trying to convert this year into a leap year—and they are not old maidB either.

Henry Walter returned home from Montana last week after a six weeks' visit with relatives. He reports the corn crop along the route in almost the same condition as ours, except in Iowa, where they will have a good crop.

Poor, deluded "Dems," you are reaping the harvest of your last fall's sowing—the sheep are going, going and will soon be all gone. One would be surprised at the amount of sheep shipped from here this week.

John Mesmore and Wm. Gray drove their fine cattle home from the Covington fair last Saturday for the winter, after having been in attendance at four fairs. They succeedded in carrying off several red ribbins at every fair, except Crawfordsville, where they did not receive so many.

The boys who attempted to wreck the passenger train on the Big Four as it pBBBed through here, had better look out as the grand jury has completed its work and returned 26 indictments. These are in the hands of the sheriff and he may be hnre at any time with a warrant for their arrest. If he does it will be no more than they deserve.

We hope the gor people of Crawfordsville will continue to push the temperance work on until every saloon in that town and surrounding towns will be a thing of the past. The law requires a man to ue of good moral character before he can obtain license for the selling of intoxicating liquorn. Did you ever hear tell of a man being of good moral character that would sell his fel low beings a drug, causing him, prob ably, to shoot down his best friend or go upon the street realing and cursing? X! Then, bow under the sun can he obtain license? If any of the corres pondents can answer the above question we would like to hear from them.

Mrs. Mary Crump, of Lebanon, who ie visiting Mrs. Hannah Lewis, was stricken with paralysis last Monday and is still in a critical condition.

Dr. Johnson, of Lizton, came over last Sunday and performed a surgical operation on Dr. BroLaugh by removing a tumor from his neck. Some of the at tendantB fainted during the operation.

Pumpkins are beginning to be plentiful. John Stanley, of Fincastle, was here Wednesday.

The old mill dam is being cleaned out and repaired for nee again. Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Shirey, of Shoals, Ind., are visiting R. C. Smith.

The opera troupe which was to have given us a week's entertainment failed to arrive.

Miss Cora Snvder, of Am boy, 111 is visiting her aunt, Mre. A. G. Snyder, this week.

Our streets were dark Monday and Tuesday nights on account of a break at the power house.

John Mitchell, who was married last week, has gone to housekeeping in the Messick property on east Main street.
