I have never seen anything act so promptly as Phenyo-Caffein in sick and nervous Headache. Many cases have been cured, and not any failures reported. H. L. Farrer, Belle Voir, N. C.

For years I have been a terrible sufferer from headache some six months ago, my physician prescribed Phenyo-Caffein, and since then, by their use, I have not had a severe headache, being able to stop them completely in their incipiency. J. H. Stannard, Concord, N. H.

You hit the nail on the head when you put Phenyo-Caffein on the' market. They are the best thing out for headache. E. P. Jones,M. D.,

One year ago I was one of the greatest sufferers from sick and nervous headache that I ever knew. I no more have trouble with sick headache, and seldom have even a slight headache. I attribute the great change to your Phenyo-Caf-fein, a remedy I could not do without if It cost $5 a box. I have tried a dozen or more medicines [warranted to cure] without their even helping me. I can not praise your valuable preparation enough. Frank S. Schmitt,

IN TELE GAS BELT.

An Abundance of the .Precious Stuff—How the Gas Towns Flourish. To the Editor The Journal.

There has been a great deal written about the failure of gas and other things in the gas region. Since leaving home I have been in a number ot the gas cities and made con siderable inquiry generally. At Muncie, Gas City, Red Key and Marion there is plenty of gas for all purposes. Here at Marion nearly all the houses are lighted bv natural gas and all factories and buildings use it for heating. The citizens say the pressure is as good as at first, and I am sure it is much better than at Crawfordsville now. These towns have had a wonderful growth and many of the improvements are very good and substantial. Muncie has more than ^rebled its population in the last two years. They have some splendid business blocks, fine residences and excellent public buildings. The Marion stieets are paved'v 1th bri Jc. They have electric sireet car lines, but they also have an old steam car line, which looks very odd in this age of progress. There are a great number of factories at Muncie, the greater part of wV.icti are closed, however, for their usual summer vacation. Most of them will start uw the first of September again. One bank failed there last week and caused somewhat of a panic, but the business men went into a"guarantee bond" that the remaining banks would pay all depositors. This guarantee was printed and pasted in all the business windows, which had the desired effect, and no run has been made on the other banks. Marion has a number of fine business blocks and several moi are being built this summer and also a number of private houses. They have a fine court house and the best school buildings I have met with any town of its size. They are so much nicer than we have at Cravvfordsville that there is no comparison. The residences are generally nice and some very fine. Church buildings are splendid. Good electric cars all over the city, all the main streets paved, sidewalks generally cement. This being Sunday I had nothing to do, so I went out to the Soldiers' Home, which is situated about three miles out from the center of town, but having an electric line running to li. The buildings are simply grand. There are eight large two story buildings that serve for living and sleeping purposes, being sufficient to accommodate about 2,COO soldiers. There is a large hospital having over two hundred beds, and a good surgeon in charge. The buildings are all of brick, two stories high and architecturally nice.

Everything seems to be clean, and most of the inmates I interviewed seem contented. Fine drives are artistically laid out over the grounds and people from the city were out enjoying themselves. Numerous flower beds are scattered around, and there are r.plendid stone walks around the buildings. There are about 900 inmates there now. The rules are very strict as a general thing. Certain hours of the day the inmates are allowed to go out and in on perpetual passes, but if they remain out past the reg ular hours the passes are taken up, and they cannot get another for thirtv days. There is considerable drunkenness among them. The first offense is punishable with ten days' work and loss of pass, and for second offense the punlshmeat is doubted, but many of them complain of partiality being shown by the officials on this score. Those who are able to work are paid for it. They have blacksmith, shoe shops, laundry and tailor shops, and in fact about everything needful is done on the grounds. They have two gas wells and their own water works. They have a fine band that gives free concerts twice a week, and play every evening while inspection is being passed. Hundreds of people attend the concerts. The soldiers are clothed and fed and receive free medical attendance. They can go out on parole and remain away as long as they desire, having the parole renewed from time to time. The bustle and vim of business in these towns area great contrast to old bleepy Crawfordsville, although at this time the financial crisis is a serious drawback to them here as well as elsewhere. The people generally are more hopeful now, and do not talk so panicky as they did a week ago, yet business has been materially crippled. The boom in this section has had its effect and the reaction is now on, but they are about settled down to legitimate business and the future will be better. Everybody came here expecting to get rich in a day, and would move into any kind of a hole they could find, but many of those temporary concerns "have folded up their tents and silently stole away," and the towns are better off for their absence.

The old rooster seems to make a poor diet the way the Democrats hang their heads. We presume he is tougher than they thought he would be. They might cook him again.

A large number from here went to the Shades Sunday. Our home talent Freedom choir received first prize in the singing contest. The singing was all good, especially the lady from Chicago and Jimmy, the bootblack of Anderson.

On last Monday the work was again begun on onr unfinished gravel road running from the school house south past James Todd's. The work consists of cutting down the hills and grading and gravel up to the bridge over Indian Creek.

Safe, Sure and, Speedy.

No externaL remedy yet devised has so fully and unquestionably met these three prime conditions as successfully as Allcock's Porous Plasters. They are safe because they contain no deleterious drugs aDd are manufactured upon scientific principles of medicine. They are sure because nothing goes into them except ingredients which are exactly adapted to the purposes for which a plaster is required. They are speedy their action because their medicinal qualities go right to their work of relieving pain and and restoring the natural and healthy performance of the functions of muscles, nerves and skin. Do not be deceived by misrepresentation. Ask for Allcock's, and let no solicitation or explanation induce you to accept a substitute.
