It would have done any one good to have seen John Browning and Taylor Mills riding along the other day in a cart. Taylor had his arm around John. He said he had to hold in the oart, but then you can't tell for both of them are widowers.

On last Friday morning just before daylight the barn on the Galey farm occupied by Maus Taylor, Caught fire some way and burned to the ground together with all the contents, such as harrows, plows and all kinds of farm implements. The barn was filled with hay, and was insured, but the contents area total loss.

The ladies of Pawnee must be very selfish or think they are too nice to help a neighbor out of trouble. Benjamin Dickerson lives in that locality with his boys and one little girl to help him cook his meals. The other day when he went to thresh hie wheat he had go elsewhere to get his help. He got Mrs Herrel, of Crawfordsville, and Mrs. Willet Dickerson, of New Market, to help his little girl, but then this is a Christian world. Pawnee is of the blessed except poor Ben and his little family.

Our school has at last been supplied with teachers. Dr. Hurt has treated his property to a new coat of paint.

Nate Miller, of Indianapolis, is here visiting his brother, Jim. Mrs. John Dunwiddie, of Wingate, was visiting here Tuesday.

John Hurt, of Benton county, visited here the fore part of this week. Almost everybody of this place at tended the Clore picnic last Sunday.

Cal Hybarger, Otis Williams and James Wilkison went to Cincinnati on the excursion Thursday.

Edward Utterback and wife took the train here Thurday for Salina, Kansas, where they will hereafter be at home.

Amos Hawkins, of Fythian, 111., has purchased Dolph Shur'B blacksmith outfit tnd will take possession right away. He comes here highly recommended as a mechanic.

Whalie Miller is making a specialty of pruning shade trees. He has also proven himself an expert at trimming dog fen nel. For reference go to Frank Booe, Mart Zerface, Ben Brown and James Miller.

Our military company returned Thursday eveniug from Terre Haute, where they h«d been in camp far the past week. They report a splendid time and many kindnesses showu by the good people of Terre Haute.

Lon Ingersoll's "Cyclone" stacker is doing good work. His son, Edwin, is operating the machine.

Arista Liveneooa, wife and daughter, of Covington, visited relatives and heard the music here Sunday.

The old settlers are hunting up old relics to take to the old settlers' meeting at Yeddo, August 17th.

T. R. Livengood contemplates removing to Crawfordsville this fall. Mr. Livengood is a fine carpenter and will aid in building up the Hoosier Athens.

Johnny Myers, a former resident of this place, but at present of Giia, Jasper county, 111., met his old iriends and associates at the musical festival Sunday.

T. R. Livengood is building a vestibule and bell tower to the Phannel Lutheran church, one and a ha'.f miles south of here. The bell weighs something near 500 pounds.

The teachers and graduates have contracted with the Sylvania band to furnish music at the teachers and graduates' picnic August 1-th, and also for the oratorical contest at night. John W. Shuler, of Wallace. Ind., will see that all letters of inquiry addressed to him are answered.

After church at Freedom Sunday night, July 15, the temple of God was used as a jail to cause a poor orphan boy to pay an exhorbitant sum oI money, to be paid as a compromise in a dog shooting case. The individuals who are guilty of such an act should be ashamed of themselves. Shame upon your beads.

The graduates met last Thursday night and appointed the following persons to act as the reception committee: L. W. Scott, C. Thomas, H. C. Reen, W. Sanders, M. Livengood, A. McElwer, Preston McClain, Ol Olwood, A, C. Keeling and Charles Wert. This is considered as an official notice to all members of the committee. Thomas Allen, W. Scott, J. E. Fine and M. F. Livengood were chosen as finance committee. Other committees will be named noxt week.
