John A. Dodd wishes to dispose of little Towell Daniels, the precious youngster who cnnie so near getting, him lynched. Anyone wanting a good fat orphan should call on Mr. Dodd.

Bicycle Races.

Another attraction has been added to the P. O. S. of A. State convention. On Tuesday, August 2, there will be two bicycle races, one for the ladies on Main street from Water to "Walnut and another for gentlemen on Green street from the Central school building to Market. In each case the prize is a five dollar gold piece. This will add much to the occasion and there should be numerous entries.

An Eye for Gas.

F. M. McCoy, a resident of Hillside, moved here from Noblesviile. He is firmly of the belief that there is natural gas under the surface all around here, He thinks that Trenton rack is a sure sign of gas and that any of our deserted holes would produce the precious tluid if dug deeper. Mr. McCoy went to New Market this morning to sell books and incidentally to talk up gas. He will try to induce New Market capitalists to invest in a derripk.

The Second Adventists at New Market.

'J the Editor The Journal. NEW MARKET, Ind., July 19, 1892.— SIRS:—In the issue of your paper of Saturday, July 16, an article appeared entitled, "The End of the World," containing certain statements relative to a series of tent meetings that are being held in the town of New Market, that were calculated to mislead the minds of those who are unacquainted with the facts in the case. It is the purpose of this article to present to your readers, with your permission, the facts as they are, and which will be corroborated by the good people of New Market who have nttended these meetings.

In the first place while this work is evangelistic, it doeB not in the least degree partake of the .characteristics referred to by the correspondent in the article mentioned, and by no means are we here to solicit old clothes. Our work is under fhe immediate control of conferences organized ic,almost every State in the Union, while we have a number o' publishing houses in .various parte of tue world: one in BattleiCreek, Mich., one in Oakland, Cal., one in London, England, also in Christaina,Norway, and Melbourne, Australia, .publishing books, tracts, and periodicals in a number of languages, while we.have a number of institutions of learning in .different parts of the Union. In regard to the views of this people, they are proteetants, and believe in keeping the commandments of God and tJiefaiih of Jesus as brought to view in Bev.l4-:1'2. We are denominated Adventists because we beleive in the second advent or coming .of-Ohiist We also observe the seventh day of the week ae the Sabbath of the Lord, holding that all the ten commandments are binding on Christians, ae brouglit to view in the New Testament Seripturee. -See Matt. 5: 17, 18., etc. That it. wac made for the whole human family., for man. Mark 2: 27. 28, and hence, we as Christians, should observe this with the other ten commandments. We endearor to hold up Christ as the only hope for the salvation of mankind, and 6eek life aod immortality through him alone, and that "in him we live and move and have our being," Acts 17,28.

We cordially invite the candid student of the Bible and history to an investigation of the views we have to offer to the world as contained in the Scripture of divine inspiration.

A SNHorn or KI.AME.

CHICAGO, .July IS. Mirrored in the waters oti the south shore of Lake Michigan at the base oi a great ridye of glisteninyr white sand that marks the limit of the ebb and flow of the tide there was lighted Saturday niylit a funeral pvre and all that was mortal of Morris Allen Collins, president of the Dallas (Tex.) Suicide club, was. by his own written request, reduced to asl.es. The Whitechapel club, of thi.s city, had charge of the strange ceremony.

A Weird Scene.

The torch was applied to the mighty pile of pitch-soaked wood at 10:50 o'clock. During the five hours the body burned impressive ceremonies were enacted about the blazing pile, weird music and recitations, interspersed with addresses replete with personal reminiscences and spoken by friends of th dead man, tilled time with deep interest and added to the strangeness of the scene. When at last the consuming flames had done well their work the ashes of the man who in life had found stony pathways and bria.r-strewn playgrounds were gathered together with reverential care and placed in an urn on which loving hands had traced in many hue? pictures symbolic of the principles which had once animated the life of him who was no more.

Not since the day nearly seventy years ago, when Byron and Trelawny stood in th^ glare of blazing driftwood that cremated the remains of their friend, the poet Shelley, has a stranger funeral ceremony marked the flying time. Never in the history of Illinois have the events of Saturday night had their precedent

Morris A. Collins blew out his liraiiis with a revolver in a lodging house at 457 West Madison street, .luly 8. He left a note willing his brain to Dr. H. N. Mover, and asking of the Whitechapel club that it burn his body over a funeral pyre, Ilonore .losepli .Jaxon, the Indian half-breed who was Louis Riel's secretary during the half-breed revolt in Canada, attended to the arrangements for carrying out this latter request. Dr. Moyer was absent from the city, and the post-mortem was not held.

Preparations for the Cremation.

The Whiteehapel club had been engaged in preparing to carry out, Collins' wishes, made in writing. Eminent legal counsel had been taken to discover if any objection could be found in the statutes to thejfulflllment of the wishes of the dead man. That the morbidly curious might not disturb the solemn rites the utmost secrecy was maintained.

The place finally selected was in that dreary waste of sand and bog in Indiana at the end of the lake. There was a secret trip from the great city "to the Baltimore & Ohio train, a hurried run to Miller's, a small junction village 30 miles southeast of Chicago, a dismal funeral march through the uninhabited region that separates the hamlet and the lake shore, and then while the northern sky was pulsating and trembling in the strange .ints of the aurora borealisthe monk-robed chaplain bade the dead farewell and Mr. .Taxon touched "the torch to the huge pile.

Placed on the Pyre.

When the dreary spot had beeD reached the body of Collins was removed from the casket. About the form was draped a Grecian robe of finest linen and purest white. The head remained uncovered. The corpse was laid upon the topmost oaken plank of the funeral pile and then the Whit-echapelers lighted their torches.

Chaplain Thompson went to the foot of the dark pvre at 10 o'clock and recited the "Submission." A little baud of villagers, huddled like sheep on the slope above them, uncovered in the cool night air. Other friends spoke kindly of the dead. The last to speak was .laxon. who stood upon the top of the pyre until it had burst into tlame.

Marched Around with l.lghtfri Torches. Three times with lighted torches the little band march round the pile. The torches were applied to the tar and pitch and inflammable wood. At 10:50 o'clock the flames burst into a mighty glare, lighting up the desolate shore lines and the dark, wooded hills. As it blazed, fanned by a southwest wind, the club joined in a weird dirge that thrilled the little group of awed COUDtrymen above them.

It was ii:16 o'clock when the center of the great pyre fell in and incineration was comolete. Only amass of glowing embers remained out of which, with trowels, the ashes of the dead were taken. At 4 o'clock the club left the place for the station, leaving Jaxon to watch the lire and collect the last of the ashes. These ashes will be Bealed by the club and entered in its cabinet.

Cuolera infantum has lost its terrors since the introduction of Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera, and Diarrhoea Remedy. When that remedy is used and the treatment as directed with each bottle is followed a cure is certain.
