Mrs. ere Townsley Loses Her Mind While Suffering With the Grip and Becomes Violent.
One of most truly lamentable incidents in connection with the epidemic of grip which has been raging throughout this community occurred laRt Monday. For several weeks both Jere Townsley and wife have been very ill at their home north-east of the city. Mrs. Townsley especially had been very ill and for the past day or two her mind has been perceptibly affected. This morning about five o'clock she suddenly, while suffering intensely, arose from her bed, where she kad been lying at tke 6ide of Mr. Townsley, and seizing a stick of stove wood struck kim a violent blow on tkekead. Mace Townsley, wko kappenened to enter tke room at tkat nuinent, at once took tke stick away from ker rnd soon kad ker quieted. Mr. Townsley's arm kad been thrown across kis face wken tke blow was struck so tke injury was not so severe as it migkt kave been. He was resting quite easily at noon and seemed quito clieorful. Mrs. Townsley is also muck quieter and it is koped tkat witk proper treatment ske will soon bo restored to her health. Her many friends sympathize with her in her sad 'nisfortune and hope for her ultimate recovery.
How Dick Kissed His Girl.

I think it was at a party held at "Bed Bug" one night, when Dick was just emerging from his "teens'' that some fellow void of conscience perpetrated a joke on him in introducing a new game called "Snick-a-snee" which consisted in placing two benches parallel with each other, and about four feet apart on these were seated a boy and a girl fac-

THELEAP YEAR HO tV
A Vp,rv Large Attendance and a Most Enjoyable Affair. The initial leap year dance in Crawfordsville occurred on Feb. 29 at the P. O. S. of A. armory and is pronounced by everyono to kave been an unqualified and maguificent success. As early as 7 o'clock the streets were filled with cabs bearing the young ladies to the homes of their gentlemen company, who sat no doubt clutching their roses nervously and with their poor tender little hearts almost beating their ribs out at the! thought of the lonely ride in the closed cab with the ladies who were likely to tickle them under their chins, muss I their hair and do a thousand awful things before the dancing hall was reached. As no startling attentions of such a nature kave been reported, however, we presume that such fears were groundless. The ladies marched bravely up to the houses of their fair ones through the rain and presented their cards to the mammas of their young men, who looked at them over their spectacles with a mild and awe struck wonder, tkinking no doubt of how things had changed since they were young and frivolous. When the blushing young men appeared they were tenderly lifted into tke cab and as tenderly lifted out again wken tke destination was reacked. Wken tke young ladies went into the dressing room they took the gentlemen's dance programmes in with tkem and wken tkev reappeared tkose programmes kad been filled, nearly everyone of tkem marked for tke twen-ty-four dances. Tke floor was uncomfortably full at times and was also a little too well waxed, causing several to receive hard falls, but for all that tke dance was simply ckarming. Tke only ckances offered to tke gentlemen to ckoose partners were in tke two "gent's ckoice," and tke floor on both these occasions presented an animated scene. Pandlon Brothers of Indianapolis, furnished the music and it was a most excellent character. It has been rarely, indeed, that a more pleasant hop has occurred, as everyone of the following who were present can attest:

Basged Noble Game.
Sheriff Bible sat in his royal curule chair all day Monday receiving the con. gratulations of the unterrified Democracy. The scandal of the jail delivery in which Mr. "Nig" Seering escaped had been wiped out. It was not wiped out in blood, to be sure, but in the next best way by the recapture of the enterprising "Nig" who when he went away carried with him a half bushel basket full of padlocks and handcuffs. "Nig" came into town Saturday night and drew the satin covers over his .sanctimonious ears at his father's domicile. Sunday morning the wanderer's return was duly reported on the streets by the neighbors who were eager to see the high lord executioner of Montgomery county exert the dread prerogatives of his ollice. Much to their disappointment ollicer Grimes appeared to bag the game but so unwilling was the family to part with the cherished "Nig" that
Sheriff Bible was finally sent for. He arrived on the scene preceded by two gigantic etheopian slaves, attired in the royal juirple, and bearing huge battle axes. 8heriff Bible dressed in the full regalia and with drawn 6ciiniter strode into tke Seering mansion and ordered tke surrender of tke escaped "Nig." All present fell on tkeir knees and tke cowering "Nig" was soon manacled by the Lord Sheriff's attendants, thrown into a clothes basket and taken back to jail where he now repines.
