The following special from Springfield. Mass., to the St. Louis
(Hobc-lM'inocrat
will be of peculiar interest in Crawl'ordsville: Springfield societv is in something of a stow because twelve of the loveliest buds, who had been selected to take part in a Ben Hur entertainment for sweet charity's Bake, have refused to don the tights and abbreviated skirts provided by tho management. The entertainment, which will be in the nature of a spectacular and pantomime, is under the mauugement of Messrs. W. C. Clark and.D. W. Cox, of Boston, who recently brought twelve men over with all the necessary scenery and costumes, and will share the proceeds with the Hampden county Children's Aid Society. The local committee of arrangements is composed of the leaders in local society. There are to be .150 persons in the cast. Most of the important parts had been assigned and the young society buds had gone to considerable expense to .furnish costumes of their own, which they wore to the lirst rehearsal one day this week. The Boston director shocked the girls by saying their home-made costumes were not suitable for tho presentation. Then he reached down into the trunks and hauled forth some gauzy creations of the costumer's skill, which one piquant miss described as "a cross between a full-dress costume and a bathing suit." They positively refused to appear before the public in such garments, and there the matter rests at present."
Those "terrible costumes" did not shock anybody in he scores of towns in the Southern, Western and Middle States when the tableaux were presented and those dear creatures in the old Bay State should have a chaperon apiece while those "horrid Boston managi rs" are in town. It grieves us to think thaf, D. W. Cox should go clear back on his Crawfordsville home while in the effete East and pi.se as a Boston dude. If he had only said he was from Crawfoi dsville any costume whatsoever
have been accepted without
a Kemedy.

Brother S. S. Martin is like Falstaff in this particular, I am afraid. If he really thinks my address to the Alliance at Darlington faulty because it did not propose a remedy for th« existing evils, he might be excusable. But how could be hear one part of the speech and remember its general tenor, without hearing and remembering the other? Brother Martin is a man of more than ordinary intelligence. And lor this reason I now cill his attention to the Senate bill, No. I 1484, drawn by myself and presented by
Senator Peffer„ of Kansas, in which I iisk the government to issue to thejandholders of Indiana, on first mortgage one-half of tho appraised value of their lands, at two per cent, for twenty years. This is a remedy: and I am ready to discuss it as a remedy with Brother Martin, or anybody else at any time and any place. Even the Indianapolis
nal
Jour
does not go so far as to say this is not a remedy. The old party press of
cultural depression in this or any other State of this Union. But it wiil not permit discussion of this question in its columns.
If Brother Martin will oblige me with his iiddress I will send him a paper with a copy of Senate bill No. 1,434.

Williams was seated in it, and B. F. Snyder in a neat speech presented it to him. Comrade Williams responded very feelingly and said he hoped to Ave to enjoy it many days. A splendid dinner was then served of all the delicacies of the season, after which several presents were given Mr. and Mrs. Williams. Mrs. J. W. Ward presented a nice oil painting, Mrs. Wm. A. Dice a silver butter knife, Mrs. Linn a nice silk handkerchief, besides other presents. The time then till 3 o'clock in the afternoon was spent in having a good tim, rehearsing old army experiences and eating apples and pop corn, at which time all left for their homes feeling that they had spent a day very pleasantly and resolved to meet again in the near future if God I spared them.

La Grippe.
No healthy person need fear any dangerous consequences from an attack of la gripyift if properly treated. It is mm the same as a severe cold and requires precisely the same treatment. Remain quietly at home and take Chamberlain's Cough Remedy as directed for a severe cold and a prompt and complete recovery is sure to follow. This remedy also counteracts any tendency of la grippe to result in pneumonia. Among the many thousands who have used it during the epidemics of the past two years we have yet to learn of a single case that has not recovered or that has resulted in pneumonia. 25 and 50 cent bottles for sale by Nye & Co.

Safe and Reliable.
"In buying a cough medicine for children," says H. A. Walker, a prominent druggist of Ogden, Utah, "never be afraid to buy Chamberlain's Cough Remedy. There is no danger from it and relief is always sure to follow. I particularly recommend Chamberlain's because I have found it to be safe and reliable." 25 and 50 cent bottles for sale
