—Ed Coleinau will shortly romovo to his farm. —The little sou of Ed Reynolds is quite sick. —Charley Coombs litis recovered his nerve and inhiu.self again. —Mrs. Homer Hills was taken seriously ill Sunday morning. —Senator Voorliees' mother died at her home in Yeedersburg last .Friday. —Rev. James Ereuks prenched at the First Presbyterian church Sunday morning. —George H. Urown, colored, of this city, has been allowed a pension of $10 per month, dating from the 5th of last July. —Joe Jones colored has bec-n allowed a pension of four dollars a month. There is joy in the camp of the Lord's unnointed. —The bite taken by the Hub and Spoke factory will probably be that just south of the Indiana Wire Fence Company's plant. —J. W. Cumberland and wife, Mrs. George Allen, Frank Snyder and Sidney Speed left for Joplin, Missouri, last Mondiy by way ol the Vandalia. —Miss Matilda J. Compton ia the agent for the Ladies' Home Journal and shall bo pleased to receive subscriptions from old as well as new subscribers. -The wife of Will York, of Waynetown, died at Indianapolis on Sunday. Her maiden name wns Alice Gray and bile had been married but two moutlit-. —James Sellar has been retained to assist M. W. Jiruuer in the defense of Charles Coombb. She was driving the pony to the buggy and carricd an umbrfalla to protect her from the rain, and a south bound freight coming along frightened the pony which started to run away and partially upset the buggy throwing the young lady out. Ho has been in over two months for assault upon Darlington's marshal. —Senator Mount lias introduced a bill providing against deception in regard to artilieial dairy products. —Lon Jkooks has signed for principle loajier and tumbler with Locke's circus for next season. —The valuable mare of E. II. Cox dropped dead Sunday evening at his farm near Garfield. —Samuel liurkhclder is rejoicing over the advent of another male descendant at his house.

New Richmond's Eccentric Doctor Meets Jtlis Dts^rts at IndianapolisAbout a year ago Dr. Jasper N. Clough, of New Richmond, began to use cancelled stamps to carry his mail to its destination. The washing he gave them was indifferently dene and postmaster Frank Cornell soon ndvic 'd the department at Washington and the upshot of the matter was that dough was arretted by a United States Marshal on the charge of using cancelled stamps, i'hen began a eieat game of biutl' by the doctor. He is a bitter Democrat and he with his friends began raise the here and cry agaiust Mr. Cornell citing all sorts ol insinuations and threatening how they would do him up if the matter ever came to trial. They made themselves ver} obnoxious by their boasts and threats and so great an air of injured innocence and indignation did they assume that many disinterested parties thought that Mayter Ciough did havo cause, for all that they knew him pretty well. The grand juiy November, however, returned an indictment and medicine man Ciough standing before Judge Woods in the United Stutes court iu Indianapolis pleaded 'not guilty' in h. rnoft valiant manner. The case was then continued until the January term and ime up for trial Saturday a the capita', l.'ou. M.D. White and A. 13. Anderson appearing for the defendant. There were four clear cases agaiust liim so ho tuought better of his determination to stand trial aud pleaded guilty. Judge Woods there upon lined him §50 and costs amouuting in all to alout §500. Ciough had about 15 witnesses present to prove his character but it seems they were not needed. Tliij doctois testimony was enough to establish it. I bus endetli the chapter,

Rev- S. P. 'Jolvin the Center of Sensation liov. S. P. Colviu, formerly ot this city, has stirred up a healthy t-ous-atioa in tbo Methodist church at JL'ilVrto. A number of bis members are trying to kick the dashboard out accusing the pastor of using undue iutlueuce in church politics. He is said to have used every means iu his power to prevent a vote of his church favorable to the admission of women to the general conference. Not ouly this, but in lighting the measure ho is said to have attacked Miss Willard in a most disrespectful mauner, ma iug lu-i* name almost a by word. The war is a brisk one aud is creating a big sensation in Northern Indiana.

On Wednesday, Wm. Miles, who lives near llusseilville, sold two calves for which ho received $28. That night some person entered his huaible d- oiling, carried his pantaloons into the yard and extracted from the pockets thereof the S'28, which was all the money he had. Air. Miles is a renter and a poor man and could illy afford to lose the money. There is no clew to tho burglar.

Wunts of 'Farmers ami .Laborers* IXIIIANAI'OMS, Ind., Feb. 2. -The combined fanners' and labor organization of Indiana have made public a catalogue of demands, which they insist must receive the careful consideration of the (ietieral Assembly. It indicates what is likely to be the most important legislation, and is as follows:

I. A fee and salary law whereby all county ollicers shall in? placed on lixeil salary, and required to pay all fees into the county treasury. 12. A system of taxation providing for a just assessment of all kinds of property to the end that all classes shall contribute to the expenses of the State. 3. That corporations lie required to pay a tax commensurate with all of the privileges they enjoy. 4. That the apportionment of the school fund be based upon th» attendance. 5. Providing for the organization of a State board of arbitration. 0. That contract labor in the prisons be. abolished. 7. That permits to luint on farms be made in writing. 8. That the lirst Monday in September, "Labor dav," be made a legal holiday. 9. That, charges made at the Indianapolis stock vards be regulated by statute. 10. That public ollicers be prohibited from accepting free railroad passes.
