UHfilSTMAS DAY.
How the Anniversary and Its Approach to'ero Observed In This City. The sovural c.lmrchcs ol' tho city observed CliristiU'is us usual ami every Sumlay sdicol .scholar was 111 do to enjoy himself, if hard work ami protty euterbiiimu'utfi oould iittribut-e to that ond. There were numerous private entertainments and a merrier "while Christmas" has not visited Crawfordsville for a year.
THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH.
The programme was carried out to the great interest, and enjoyment of all. Tim scholars were treated in a royal manner and all wore more than satisfied. The collection takeu for defraying the expenses were perfectly satisfactory.
THE METHODIST CHURCH.
The entertainment at the Methodist ohutch began Christmas e\eatf:30 p. m., and was over at an early hour in order that even the vcu'jgest scho'ars might participate. The festivities were hugely enjoyed bv all and all were treated to confectionery.
AT FIRST CHURCH
The literary programme advertised in Wednesday's
JOURNAL
was carried out
with the addition of a verso recited by Master Frankie Symmes and every scholar was handsomely treated to confectionery, the younger ones receiving mugs and cups and saucers.
CENTER CHURCH.
A delightful audience witnessed the entertainment at Center church on Wednesday evening. Rev. E. B. Thomson, staudiug under an arch and bell trimmed with evergreen, introduced the exercises. Then followed songs and recitations and seven little cooks came in and made "patty cakes" and "peas porridge hot." After they were through Mr. Chns Schweitzer favored the audience with one of his finely executed pieces on the violin. Then some little folks, called "Christmas Bells," came in and chimed their bells to the notes of the organ, called for Santa Clausand sang him a welcoming song and sure enough he a-me, in the person of Major Foote, with his big pack but he said it was empty and so he sent the little bells out in the audience to get some thing to fill it, and they did fill it full and running over with good things for children who were in need. Then the good old gentleman departed happy and after another song every one else did.
THE BAPTIST CHURCH.
A most enjoyable entertainment was given at the Baptist church at night. The children were all presented with' confections and fruit and then the pae tor, Rev. G. P. Fuson came in for a treat also. He was presented with a large tableful of provisions, a. new overcoat and several other much appreciated gifts.
A WEDDING.
At the residence of the bride's parents at 701 south Green street, by Rev. J. H. Oliphant on l)eo. 25, Mr. John M. Jackman and Miss Dora E. Slileppy were united in marriage in the presence of the family and relatives. Mauy handsome presents were given. One was a fine crayon portrait of the bride's mother bv Mr). Blanch B. Sohleppy. I They went to Chicago last Mond iy where they will spend a few days and then go to Omaha, Neb., where they will reside.
AN EPICUREAN DISH.
On Christmas eve., Mrs. Wm. H. Steele according to her custom, entertained company of the 120th Indiana regiment. There were several other guests besides the company making a total of 15"guests. The repast set before the old veterans was delicious and bounteous. Among other delicaciet placed before the company were pears which hung upon the tree when the Rebellion was in its strength and vigor. They were preserved and presented to Mrs. Steele upou her wedding day 27 years ago and have been gaining delicious flavor ever since for the charming entertainment given by Mrs. Steele in the "piping time of peace."
Every customer at the Y. M. 0. A. barber shop ^Christmas was presented with a cigar.
The hands of the Dove Tail Body Works presented Chauncey Coutant with a beautiful willow rocking chair Christmas.
W. F. Pettit was the recipient of a fine large basket of fruit and candies from J. C. Wampler and a box of fine Havana cigars from an unknown friend.
The twenty-five boarders of the Misses Burke in conjunction with the ffrm of Barnhill, Hornaday & Pickett, presented them with 14 fine dining room chairs.
J. K. Bonnell received a unique gift from his son in Calfornia. It was a handsome cane made of twelve varieties of California wood. It is a beauty and presents a striking appearanee.
The people of this city were better prepared or else in a better humor for giving Christmas presents this year than last if the postoffije statistics are any criterion. Last year 400 Christmas packages were sent through the office against 815 this year.
Mrs. W. H. Jackson and daughter, Miss Stella, gave a reunion in honor of Mr. Jackson, Christmas, all his brothers neDhews and nieoes being invited. Hi« brothers, David Jackson and family, of this county, Enoch Jackson and family of Indianapolis, Ethel Jaokson and wife and Robert Jackson were present. Twenty-five persons sat down to the bounteous repast and a most enjoyable ocoasion it proved for all.

Another Home Industry-
"Smail it Suiters Jubilee Minstrels" is J6 way it reads on the bill boards at New Ross. This new and healthy show company is organized at Crawfordsville exclusively of home talent started out on Tuesday to try its fortune for the first time. The first stand is at New Ross and the town has been thoroughly billed. Darlington, Ladoga, New Markec and Rockville are also on the date book. The company is composed of the following artists: Bob Hays, song dance Charles Suiters, song and dance Walter Smail, alias "Pete," king of end men Julius Bailey, the silver-tongued baritone Frank Scott, violin yi rtuoso Male Endicott,GeorgePrimrose's double Ed Taylor, Alabama jubilee singer Frank MeNeeley, interlocutor and manager Lishe Gilloway, assistant manager George Little, break neck song and dance. The organization is to bo a permanent one and next season will be accompanied by a juvenile band which is*bow under the training of N. W. Myers.
Cure For Rheumatism.
Gen. Wallace allows us to copy tho recipe given below, sent him from an old army officer: "I must give you a simple treatment that took the rheumatism out of me in 18fi4 in ono night. I found it in Harper Monthly and being warmly vouched for by some one in Philadelphia I conoluded to try it. And it was the end of my troubles. Apply a full strength poultice of mustard with a little garlic in it, to the hollow of both feet and cover up in bed. Put sufficient bedding under you to take up the perspiration because you will sweat like a harvest hand. Let it run three or four hours, then remove the mustard and the wet bedding, but let your other clothing dry so as not to give you cold. Don't be afraid of blistering your feet. You have no idea how much the human sole (beg pardon) can endure. It will not blister nor make your feet sore. I suppose the copious sweating is what cures the malady. I was afflicted thus for several years, but left it, or it left, me. all in one night, never to return."
Wilson-Bennett-
On Christmas day at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Wilson, in Madi son township, their only child, Miss Tessa, was united in marriage to Daniel M. Bennett, of Franfort, Rev. T. C. Slianklin performing the ceremony. Miss Mayme E. M. Beach, of Romney, acted as bridesmaid and Clyde V. Halstead as groomsman. The ceremony took place i*i the presenoe of quite a number of the friends of the interested parties. An elegant collation was served and the list of presents embraced many that were useful and pretty.
