IF the Republicans do their whole duty the state is absolutely ours.
IF you have business to attend to out of town attend to it at once, so you are back by the time of the election.
THE tariff oheapens lumber, binding twine and sugar for the farmer without addinK excopt in a small degree to luxuries.
THE oorreot thing is to vote tlr rhole Republican ticket straight, by stamping the square at the left of words "Republican ticket."
WHILE the Democrats are talkins so much about the effect of the tariff upon manufacturers, claiming an advance iu price, why do they keep silent as the grave about protected wheat, corn aud meats? Do they think to deceive sensible farmers.
WHILE our Lige is talking so much about what he had done for the soldier, let him explain how ho did it. Simply answered their letters—by proxy—and then claimed his influence worked wonders in the pension office. His influence with the preset administration must be immense.
THE Review claims a certain Repubcan candidate is furnishing beer by the bairel to citizcns about the Junction. If a Democrat can't sniff beer from afar there is no beer about. If he knows of this why does he not report the same to the authorities? The story is thinner than the froth on his imaginary beer.
UNDER the tariff of 1883 the duty on all manufactures of leather and all manufactures of which leathor is a compound part was 30 per cent, advalorem. By the McKinley bill the duty on boots and shoes made of leather is put at 25 per oent. A reduction of 5 per cent, in the duty will not justify a rise in the prioe, as claimed by the Democratic campaign liar.
REMEMBEr that you stamp the square at the at the top of the ticket if you want vote the straight ticket, and stop stamping right there. If you want to vote a mixed ticket, you must stamp the square on the margin of the ticket at the end of the name of every candidate you want to vote for. Stamp what you vote that is all there is to it. It is easy when you know how.
SOME of Goben's henchmen in the Mace neighborhood seem to be greatly exercised concerning the morals of John 0. Wingate. It is too late in the campaign to assault the character of Mr. Wingate, and Mr. Goben and his friends are in small business when they aro compelled to resort to the ignoble working of tarnishing the character of one who is the equal, if not the superior of the man in whose favor they are directing their efforts.
HON. E. V. BKOOKSHIRE made speeches at Ladoga and Darlington and in neither of them did he mention the question of pensions for soldiers. The query is did he forget it or did he i)ur" je] ig If the soldiers aro so near to his heart as he professes liow could he forget it, as out of the fullness of the heart the mouth speaketh. If he purposely ignored it was he afraid that he would offend the Bourbon soldier hating class of his own party. In either it shows that Mr. Brookshire has no convictions in favor of pensions for soldiers only so far as it serves personal ends to secure their votes in his political aspirations. Mr. Brookshire has never made a public declaration as to his position, and it may be inferred tnat he is entire acoord with the great vetoer of pension legislation, Grover Cleveland.
HEBE is one of the neatest illustrations we have seen of the advantages of the new tarifi bill: "Now, there is a can of peaohes. The tin in the can weighs about a quarter of a iiound. If the increased duty of tin is added to the prioe, which hasn't been done yet, the tin in the can will cost three-tenths of a oent more than formerly, or about three and a half oents a dozen cans. But to prepare that can of peaches it required a half pound of sugar, the duty on whkh will be reduoed two and a half cents a pound on April 1 next. Next season, therefore, it will cost two
J!-"'
and two-tenths cents lees to furnish the tin and sugar in a can of peaches than now, the result of tariff legislation. The free trade organs say nothing about this. It does not suit their purpose, wliiuli is to deceive."
THE ROBBER TARIFF.
The Indianapolis Sentinel down to the Grawfordsville Review among Democratic newspapers, and Daniel W. Voorhees down to Mulberry Sellar among Democratic speakers make one continued prolonged howl concerning the robber tariff. This process of robbing has been going on here almost for a hundred years, and the following are some of the results: We have become the riohest nation in the world. Our internal commerce surpasses in volume and in value tb imports of all other nations. We are the greatest manufacturing nation. We have half the railway mileage of the world. We consume nearly half the iron and steel product of the world. We consume one-third of the wool product. We consume two-thirds of all the tin plates made. We grow more than half the ootton. We are the only nation that has a surplus in its treasury. We are the only nation that ever paid §1,000,000,000 of debt in twenty-five years. We pay higher wages than any other nation. Our people consume more good things per oapita than those of auy other country. Wages have steadily advanced under this process of the rob bery, and prices have steadily gone down. Half a million people from other countries come here every year to be robbed, and so eager are they to to come, that when we pass laws to keep them out they sneak in by way of Canada aud Mexico. Strange to say most of them come from the British Islands where there is free trade. These are odd results of persistence in robbery. The more wo rJb ourselves the richer we get, and the more resolute other people are to subject thomselvos to the king of outrages. If such are the issues of theft, then the eighth commandment is a mistake and the profession of the bandit is useful to society. •••,
HOW TO VOTE.
If you want to vote a straight ticket, stamp the square to the left of the name of the part}' for whose candidate you wish to vote that is, you should stamp the square to the left of the words "Republican Ticket." Be careful about this, some think that they should stamp the square to the left of the name of the Secretary of State in order to vote the straight ticket but a ticket stamped that way would be counted for the Secretary of State only.
Don't forget that the way to vote a Straight Ticket is to stamp the square at the left of the words "Republican Ticket."
AGAIN—You can vote a mixed ticket in either of two ways: 1. You can do it by stamping the square to the left of the name of each candidate for whom you want to vote on whatever list of candidates it may be. 2. Or you can stamp the square to the left of the name of your party, and also to the left of the person on another ticket for whom you wish to vote.
To VOTE the straight ticket, put the stamp on the little square to the left of the worcis "Republican Ticket", and do not put the stamp on the square to ihe left of the name ot the candidate for Secretary of state,
LET every voter in Montgomery county consult the election law before he attempts to cast his ballot. If you cannot read get someone to tell you how as it must be done.
DON'T forget that under the new law you vote two ballots. The State ballot, which will be priuted on red paper, and the county ballot on white paper.
SUPPOSE prices had advanced is it not well known that eras of high prices are always "good times" and eras of low prices always "hard times."
When vice prevails and impious men bear sway. When cuts, sprains, bruses torment all the day Then ease from pain—from care and hurt arc sent by great Salvation Oil, the standard liniment.
