T. H. II. McCAIN, Kdltor.
Crawford svillo on account of
lias the
will act wisely to avoid all
stores whore the McKmley bill has increased prices.
IF tho inorease in the price of tin raises the price of goods, will not the farmer ue benefitted?
IF increase of coinage increases the volume of circulating medium, why did our Lige vote against it?
IF tho tariff increases the price of articles on which it is assessed, will it not inorease tho farm products?
THE Democrats whine about the increasd tariff on buttons but never a word concerning free sugar.
IF the farmer receives a higher price for his produce by reason of the tariff, cannot he afford to pay more for what he buys?
THG new tariff ou tin plates does no go into effect till the 1st of next July. All assertions, therefore, that tinware is higher on aocount of the HcKiuley bill, are simply campaign lies.
THE Republican party in Montgomery county is in good trim. It has a good ticket. If every Republican will Work until the day of eleotion to seoure votes and then vote himself, the victory is almost certain.
THE
campaign liars never before en
tered into so gigantic a scheme as that which the Democratic papers are now working to make people believe that prices of goods have been increased by the HcKinley bill.
A LETTEK written by the manifold process with the signature of D. W. Yoorhees, is now flooding the mails exhorting Democrats to stand by their colors. One of these letters was sent to J. P. Warbritton, at New Market, why, the recipient does not understand.
BE sure that you do not touoh your ticket on eleotion day with either pen or pencil. A mark or a soratch of anykind upon your ticket, made with anything except the rubber stanp, which is provided by the law, will destroy your vote, and your ballot will be thrown out.
THE
Crawfordsville correspondent of
the Indianapolis Sentinel is badly demoralized and gives up the fight in Montgomery oounty in advance. Seeking a soft place to light he belabors Mulberry Sellars, the Democratic chairman, for doing nothing to thwart the Republican schemes of enticing Democratic voters to loive the county. The correspondent evidently is a rainbow nhaser.
THE way the Republicans are ruining the farmers may be seen in the fact that wheat was $1.05 per bushel in Chicago yesterday. Corn and oats excited and advancing. This is what the Republicans have done for the people. Wheat is worth to-day 22} cents more than a year ogo, .It will take a good many Si^'V' ies of iLo calamity orators to answer this fact of real benefit in hard cash that is pouring into the pockets of the western farmers.
THE
free list under the new tariff law
is larger than it has ever been before since our first tariff went into operation. Nearly 50 per cent of the articles imported are now free. Since 1883 only about 30 j)er cent. Jwere free and before that—including the period of operation of the tariff of 1846, usually «. esteemed by Democrats and free traders tho golden age of American industry—the proportion of goods oa the free list was still smaller.
PIJESTDENT CLEVELAND
vetoed in four
years 524 pension bills. President Harrison has not vetoed one. The new pension bill passed by the Congress that has just adjourned received the vote of every Republican in both Houses, •while in the House but twenty-eight Democrats voted for it and in the Senate but three. During the session of Congress just closed the Republicans have on record 719 votes for pension measures, with but one against the Democrats have recorded 177 votes for and 3fJ2 against."
Si NOB the passage of tho MoKinley tariff bill, manufacturers of clothing in the east and elsewhere, have advised retail dealers of an advance in goods of from 10 to 12 per oent. Intending pur chaser of olothing for the coming winter may not be in the least cheered by this information, and will not be loud their approval of this new tariff bill by a Republican mojority in Congress, but the question is what are you going to do about it?—Review.
The people whoaredifcturbed by these lies of Democratic newspapers, can learn that leading clothing houses are advertising clothing at the old prices, aud even cheaper than ever. See Indianapolis and Chicago doilies, and you can easily learn "what to do about it.' Our own dealers are not odvertising any ad-

are, to have further illustrations of the advantages of the new tariff law, and at once. Articles manufactured from tin, boots and shoes and clothing, are all to be advanced in price to the retail dealers. The retailer must, of course, have his profit and he gets this off of the consumer. If you pay, for instance, two dollars more now for a suit of clothing than a year ago, you are helping tue manufacture and proving to the world the great advantage of the tariff over free trade.—Review.
Not a merchant in Crawfordsville has marked up tin ware, boots and shoes or clothing. You may visit any dealer in the above named articles in the city and learn that they are selling at the same old prices.
TRICKY merohants are advertising that goods are going to go up soon, in consequence of the McKinley bill, and that purchasers had better come at once and lay in a stock before the rise in prices The fact is that a great number of merchants who had so little sense as to believe that the McKinley bill would send prices up, laid in an immense stock of foreign fabrics, and now find the market glutted, and seek this method of working off their surplus. Our advise is to buy nothing of those men, but to wait, and in less than thirty days you will find all these lines of goods 20 per oent. cheaper than they are now. A glut always reduoes prices.
THE campaign liar is working himself well nigh to death juct now about the increased price of goods. He started out by alleging that shoes and boots had been advanced 50 cents per pair on account of the McKinley bill, but forthwith the leadiug Republican, and some honest Democratic journals, showed that the tariff on shoes and shoe materials had been reduced instead of increased. But the liars, not the least abashed by this exposure, turned to other articles, but, in nine cases in ten, the exposure as quickly follows as it did in the case of the shoo lie.
THE merohants who have been trying to put their goods up, on account of the tariff, are receiving hard treatment at the hands of many leading newspapers. The New York Tribune in its last issue, exposes their attempted frauds, and advises all retail dealers to pass by suoh houses when in searoh of goods, and hunt for more honest merohants. This "campaign lie" was started a little too soon. It will run its course and be dead and buried in the rubbish of cam paign trash long before the 4th of November.
THE Indianapolis News says the dealers in olothing in that oity are putting up their prices on account of the McKinley bill. If this is so we advise all our readers to buy their Winter suits in Crawfordsville where they can get them for the same old prices, and a little lower than ever.
NOTWITHSTANDING the assertion of the Review the prioe of olothing has not advanced one cent since the passage of the MoKinley bill. Our olothing dealers will tell the editor of that paper or anybody else that they are selling goods as low as they were sold last year and much lower than five years ago.
