Death of Joseph Kosclmtiiti. Joseph llosebauin, a young man bout '24 years of uge, ami a soli of Frank Hosebautn, living 7 miles south of tho city, near New Market, died at Han RernaKlino, Cal., on Thanksgiving day. He was a victim to consumption, and had been sent to California for the purpose of trying the effuc.t of the climate upon his malady, but it was in vain. The body will be brought back for interment, dim notice of which will be Kivon.

Hurgliirl/.ed?

Murglars elfected an entrance into Neilest .V Fossee's barber shop Sunday night by forcing open a tin guard on a window sash in the rear of the bath rooms. Thirteen dollars in money which had been left in a closet, four of tliii finest razors in the establishment and a scarf pin were taken.' Suspicion points to a young bov who had been employed about the place for some time, as he has not made his appearance at the shop to-day and has not been seen around the city. If upprcheniled the Kefonn School will likely receive an inmate.

A BITTER EXPERIENCE.

Klcvii Mouths of VVeilileil l.lfc Any. Hiiug but lillss Hi Mi. 1 l»\Vit rt.

J)leveti niiniths ago Moses Stewart I and Mrs.Nsnnie liinn wi're married, attd on the wedding day the bride expressed herself as feeling a premonition of coming trouble. Hut a few days were neccensary to show that her presentiments were in ing fulfilled, for her husband dmelnped an insane jealousvof liis wife, and by a series ol persecutions hits compelled her to Deck a home with her mother. The couple lived on the Doc. Keisey farm south of the city, and on W c.liiebduy last Mrs. Stewart ran to the In.use of Mr. Craig, neighbor, asking protection from her husband who she said was trying to kill her. The husband followed .soon after armed with a re\ol\er and threatening to use it on his wife or on uiivone who was protecting her, but Mr. Craig, with the assistance of a club, succeeded in persuading the lnturiated matt from doing anv harm. Mr. Stewart left the house and came to Crawfordsville ami in his absence the wife gathered up what things she could that belonged to her and went to the home of h«r mother at ljudoga. Mr. Stewart went there to see his wife, and it is naturally supposed that »he refitsed to return to his house. It is also supposed that after his interview with his wite he procured some kind of poison at Ladoga and came home and swallowed it, for he was taken violently sick. 1 wo physicians were called in and have been working with him ever since. The case has been t:u- topic ot conversation in the neighborhood, and it. is agreed by all that no possible inundation exists for the insane jealousy that has prompted Stewart to act as lie has. Mrs. Stewart has borne the marks of his pinching ami other outrageous treatment more than once. She is quite an estimable lady and has the sympathy of everyone "in the trials to which she has been subjected. Stewart is about oO years of age and has a large family of children, while his wife is about ten years younger.

A Neat Surprise.

Joseph W atkins, one of the model farmers of Scott township, is building a large barn, and during the past Week has been working an extra force of hands. Last Thursday, Thanksgiving, Mr. Watkiiis had occasion to come to town on business. During his absence his wife conceived the idea of a stirprise for her husband. Securing a large turkey and assisted bv Katie Coons led the fowl to the slaughter. All traces of the deceased fowl were carefullv secreted and the bodv made ready for the table. Mr. Watkins not returning for the midday repast, the feast was postponed until eveniag. At the evening meal Mr. Watson and tho whole force were invited to a table which fairly groaned beneath its weight of the good things of the barnyard and field. It is needless lo say that all were completely surprised.

A Big liiy.

Unless one is employed in a postoftice he has little conception of the magnitude of the money -order business, as Saturday for instame. Postmaster Booe paid 81 money-orders and postal notes, besides issuing about half that nuinb„r. 1 In* number of traniiactions are almost equal to that of any bank ill the city, but ilk a matter of course, the amount, of money involved does liotoompare. The work necessary to that amount of business is considerable as the entering of the order when received in its proper book, and again when it is paid is double the routine of cashing a check at a bank.

The l.o.val l.oyton.

The charier members of the Indiana Commandery of the Loyal Legion restdat Indianapolis have appointed a committee on reception ami arrangements for December 111, when the officers of the grand commandery of the order will be present and inaugurate the Indiana commandery. A banquet will be given in honor of their distinguished visitors. Ceneral Lew Wallace will deliver the

Or&wfordsville will furnish several candidates for tho dilVerent ollices at the disposal of tho Indiana Legislature. J. Ji. Courtney is seeking the Secretaryship of the Senate, F. liulett wants to bo Doorkeeper of the House, while John (i. Overton ib desirous of a clerkship either the Senate, or House.
