The Inter-State League Has Gone. The Peoria Club disbanded last Saturday night. It was in better condition than either of the other clubs now in the league, but found that it could not make things pay and disbanded before money was lost.
Davenport is trying to buy the Minneapolis franchise. If this is not accomplished the club will disband. The club played a game with the Rock Islands on Sunday and defeated them by a score of 14 to 4. The batteries on both sides were changed frequently. Mains, who was signed by the Chicagos, pitched several innings and struck out four of his fellow players.
Ancient Base Ball
In order to prove that base ball was a sport of the ancients the Lafayette Times says: "A few years ago a marble group was dug up at Pompeii which represents an athlete crouched on the ground, while above him towers another man who looks off expectantly and raises his left hand. It is thought that this is intended to represent "Judgement on first!"
