Waynetown Hornet: Last Friday the l-'aith Rang were determined to have a dace to worship aceoidmg to their own belief. They went in a crowd last Friday to Center church near Elmdale and armed with fence rails broke in the church doors. The people residing in that vicinity are very mad over it, and it is reported thai they went to swear out warrants Tor the nrrcbt of the whole party. Their mode of worshiping Is a disgrace to any community, and the sooner thoy are disposed of the better off tliev will lie.

Uev. G. W. Switzer on Sunday Biorning in hispreludo to the children paid his respects to the gossiper. that meanest of created things, bearing the stamp of Immunity. Too much cannot be said of this pestiferous parasite by the press and pulpit, of Crawfordsville, for in this city they seem to grow spontaneously and ply their despicable trade without any consideration of other's feelings. Mr. Switzer has the sympathy of all good people ill anythisg he may say about the gossips and his cry should be taken up by every minister in the city.

New Instructor for Wabash. Wabash college has secured a teacher of the German language in the person of Albert F. Kuersteiner, of Cincinnati. He was in the city on Saturday making the acquaintance of the faculty and trustees, and returned to Cincinnati yesterday morning by way of Lafayette. He is a scholarly looking young man of twentyfour, and last year graduated from the university of Cincinnati. His parents are both German and he speaks the language with the perfect fluency. Besides he has prepared himself especially for the work of teaching, and will no doubt be a valuable acquisition to Wabash's efficient corps of instructors.

Th*' Work uf Organization to Itagln When Niil»Hcrilel. The solicitors lor funds to aid in sinking gas wells in this county and for the organization of a company with the intention of sinking numberless wells throughout the county to discover if possible where the hidden wealth may be found. The following agreement has been placed on the subscription book. "We the undersigned hereby mutually "•grco to become subscribers to the capital stock of an association to be organ ized bv the subscribers hereto (or the purpose ol sinking and operating oil or ga6 wells in Montgomery county, Intl., and of selling the products of such wells. The capital stock of said association shall be $50,000 dirided into 5.000 shares of $10 raeh and we each agree to take and pay for the number of shares hereto subscribed l.v us. Association to be organized when the sum of 75,000 has been subscribed in stock."

This has a business like appearance. Several gentlemen departed this morning for tlio northwestern gas fields of the SUtc to look about and gain all the points they can on the question of natural g&s and the locations where it is to be found. There has been gas found often at places whore the search had been abandoned as useless. The territory about Crawfordsville has not yet been exhausted. Two wells weie sunk, but because tliev were failure.- is no reason why gas couid not lie found in some other locality. The movement is- meeting withencouragemi'iit and there pi nimbly will be 110 trouble in securing the required amount of stock.

Wtieic to rind It.

Since the pi' S'-nt. agitation of the natural gas question there have been various opinions advanced as to where it I was likel) to be found. Charlie Coombs, who is a digger am', deiver into the bosom of mother ennh and who is •.••arching always for hidden secrets of nature, gives it as his opinion that gas can be found 011 the low creek bottom just below the T.

II. A I.. railroad bridge in the old lied ol the creek from which it was turned years ago. He says there i» one strata of stone less there than any place that he has disco-'crcd about t.lif city. He also has other reasons for believing that gas can be found there, others think the sulphur springs southwest of the city is the place to dig. as the water is known to he chaiged with gns ol some sort. Others think the flat east of the County Asylum to be the place. Others are in favor of Commissioner Cnibb's erawilsh farm, while others have different spots. They will all probably have a chance to pee their favorite spots diilledon when the new company l& organized and gets to work in earnest.

OUT WHITCAPPING.

The Ex-Mrs. Lightcap Calls For Satisfaction. ¶ Miss Nancy Long, or Mrs. Nancy Lightcap, ex-wife of Fred Lightcap, made a call at this office on last Friday morning. She had blood in her eye and a parasol in her hand. She was clothed from head to foot in red hot mad. She first visited the composing room and declared her intention of performing a feat of cannibalism on the compositors. They referred her to the sanctum and girdled about with wrath she strode in with a step like she owned the shooting gallery. As there were two men in the office at the time she inquired for the man she wanted. He was there, and then in language neither elegant nor scholarly demanded to know why she was not as "pure as ice and chaste as snow." As she was better prepared to answer the question than anyone else in the room, it was tabled. Mrs. Long-Lightcap has never attended schools of etiquette, hence her wild actions this morning may be pardoned. She swore her character was free from spot or blemish and that her company was always that of those who were pure and fair to see. In fact when it came to the keeping of lirst class company she had no rats in her attic. She has a good opinion of herself. and no matter what the wild waves, the gentle breezes or the murmuring boughs and waving grasses at dewy eve may tell, she knows that ice coulk [could] take its model from her, and the snowflakes could learn many a lesson in painting themselves with white.

all these

things be true, how sadly has the public and the inanimate objects mentioned above slandered this poor woman. She said she was unprotected. If her protection is always as good as it was Wednesday night, she need

her plea by giving vent to an oath that would raise the hair on the dead, and brought her sinewy arm up a la Sullivan, declining her intention of paralyzing someone. A look disabused her of that idea and she lowered her arm, contenting herself with a volume of talkee, talkee, which would not look well in print. She was invited to make herself scarce and declined to do so, saying she was not afraid of the cops and would stay as "long as I d— please." She did not stay long afterward, but by the time she got out a crowd of nearly a hundred people had gathered in the office and on the sidewalk, waiting for the pure, virtuous, badly injured damsel to commit hari kari on the object of her wrath. She retired without doing murder. A thought, probably, that purity did not do such things stayed her hand.

The artiele on the no.eesMtv of natural gas to Crawford&ville in a recent issue of Tun JoruNAii has had its effect. The people saw the point at once and the result has been tnueh discussion and it was Mnally decided to hold a meetingat wlnc'i time a public discussion ol the question could be had. The meot'pg was held at the ollice of J. 31. Hurford, and wa* attended by a great nmnv of our citizens. T. H. 1» McCain was chosen President of the meeting ami Ira MoConnel was made Secretary. The interest in the question ol gas is not confined to the city but farmers surrounding have impressed with the idea that gas can be lound in this section and they proposes to help procure it by taking stock and aiding in every way possible to procure it. They realize what a benellt it would be to them as well as to those in the city in tho matter of light and fuel and taking a sensible view of the matter will conic forward and help to the extent of their ability. The proposition is to organize a .stock company with a capital of $50,000 ami purchase an outfit for drilling, with which wells will be sunk in different directions from the citv and at different distances in what are considered favorable localities. They will sink a dozen or more wells iu this manner, until every- -j body is thoroughly convinced thut gas is not within piping distance of our oily.

Ira McConnell, who has resided in th«v gas field at Muneie evci since it was discovered there, gave the meeting an interesting tall and informed them that an .: outlit could be procured without trouble or excessive cost at almost anv gas town and on motion of M. Gregg, a com-. mittee of three was appointed 10 ascortain the cost of a driving outfit. This committee consists of fra McConnell, Zaek Mahorneyand Paul ]]. IJurns.

A committee was also appointed to solicit subscriptions of stock among the people of both city and country. The. amount of stock as hasalr^ady been not-' ed will be $50,000 and with that amount-' and by the plan proposed a large number of wells may he sunk and we may. no doubt will, find what we are after. The soliciting committee is composed of Ohas. X.Harding,Pr.K.W.Keegan and Kd Coleliinii. They will set about their work immediately and the work of drilling will not be postponed long, if they meet with success they anticipate.
