Two weeks ago the R'.vieir *aid: A partv that has principle* but deserts them for a little political scheming de. serves the rebuke it receives for *uch time serving plans, as originate generally in the brains of men who have no principles.

The brainless gentlemen who engineered the Hiatt boom now realize the truth of th* It* riftrM predictions

that money was sent from the Eastern financial centers to defeat him for the reason that he wa.- a Knight of Labor. The (ioulds and Yunderbills know which side of their bread i* buttered, and they knew to have Mr. Hiatt elected a Trustee of Pnion township, Montgomery eounly, Indiana. United States of America, would precipitate their financial downfall and lead to ruin and bankruptcy.

Now that Mr. Hiatt ehiims that money was sent in large volumes from the East to defeat him for a two dollar a day of fin suppose he should by his present popularity receive the nomination for Governor of Indiana, as an independent candidate. Query, would there not be an Inllation oj money in our State. Independents and Democrats, now is your lime to Greelyizo and show your hand in bringing about the prosperity of the

commonwealth of our great State bv making this nomination.

TlIKSCHKMtt I'All.KI).

The lesson of the election Monday plain. Neither party will swallow a mugwump for any oflice, even that of road upervisor. The IVmoiials sat down upon one of their own men, Frank Ilallowell, who had a lighting chance for an election, and in convention endorsed the candidacy ol a political freak, and were beaten 17 votes?. This was a schume of

Alexander Harper. For three weeks before the convention Harper was telling the boys that llintt wu-, the very man to

For further information as to the manner how to pioceed thev should apply to the Commissioners of Montgomery county. iiVruir.

Why should anv honest ofllee-holder be afraid of experts? And why should any Democratic organ be opposed to having the "books examined?" Was not this the groat hobby upon which Cleveland rode into the Presidency? A little "expert" business over in Kentucky several venrs ago might have saved that benighted State $20U.IHMI. ltut the sneers of the Democratic press and politicians over there, at the demands of the Republican paity for an investigation of the books, enabled a dishonest otlicial to carry on his thievery for almost twenty vears. Since it is now demonstrated that the county ot Montgomery lost more than $7.nno bv Mr. (ioben's management of the Treasurer's oflice we do not exactly see the propriety of the AV rieiv* sneer at the commissioners of Montgomery eount\ .*

Axi) money was sent from the far away, effete East to crush the aspirations of Harmon Hiatt to be Trustee of Union township. Montgomery county, Indiana. The capitalists of the "Kowdy W.M" appealed to their brethren, they responded and Harmon was defeated. Ye Gods and little fishes, what a pictuie! Harmon posing as the slain lamb on the altars ot Wall street. It is enough to wring tears from the es of angels. Far away the click of tin* telegraph pounded above the roar of the Atlantic in the city of New York the awful fact that Harmon Hiatt. a Knight of Labor, had been nominated for Trustee at Crawfordsville. Jay Gould. Cvrus W. Field. Yanderbilt and other magnates, frightened at tliis demonstration of popular enthusiasm, went down in their pockets and away sped tin* dollars to the West. Harmon must be defeated. The picture of the sacrifice is too dark and we draw the curtain.

A FAKMEU living in the southern part of this township the other day asked HE Jorn.VAL whether or not TIN? railroad lax when levied would all be paid in one installment or be divided into two installments- The law provides trial onehalf of the taxes shall be placed on the duplicate one year and the other half the following year, "which tax shall be collected in all respects as other taxes are collected for State and county purposes.'* It will thus be seen that the tax will cover a period of two years and will be paid in four installments. The law

further provides that the money so appropriated shnll not be paid to the railroad company until the iron is laid and a train of ears shall have passed over the entire length of the township voting the

EKUI AI' TK Now comes Dr. Gillum, of Parke count y. and formally

announces his candidacy for the Democratic nomination fur Cougtess in this district. Moreover he maks the announcement in the Democratic organ pill linheri here, at Mr. .bhn K. Lamb's place of Summer abode, his Winter home being in Washington. Mr. Murray Hriggs. of Sullivan, is aUo formally announced, not to mention Mr. Yoorhees lirookshire, of Crawfordsville, and many others. What we want to know is if this is a new scheme to drown the "blue-eyed boy" in a Hood of candidates, or simply evidence that the members of his party in this district think he is no longer to be consulted in this regard ami that anyone is at libertv to make the race?

Last year the Democrats carried the State by nearly 3.000 nmjoiity. together with a majority of the Legislature. The Republicans are starting aff this year with their best foot foremost.

To Assist Nature

In restoring diseased or wasted tissue is all that any medicine can do. In pulmonary affections, such as Colds, Rronchitis ami Consumption, the mucous membrane lirst becomes inllamed, then accumulations form in the air-cells of the lungs, followed by tubercles, and, finally, destruction of the tissue. It is plain, therefore, that, until the hacking cough is relieved, the bronchial tubes can have no opportunity to heal. AVer's Cherry Pectoral

From Coal Cre*?k.

To the Kditor of the Journal, Not in the spirit ol humiliation do we speak ot the late canvass and loss o| this township in not electing Capt. K. T. McCrea Trustee lor the next two years, for we all leel that a mistake had been made. There can be no more worthy officer, or no more cheerlul Christian officer than this township has enjoyed lor the past two years. A more gallant race for Trustee has not been made by anv township in Indiana than the one bo honorabl'v made by Capt. McCrea. He had a herculean task, to change a majority ot S5 against him, together with the combined Democratic partv oi this county, ami yet he onlv lacked a change of iust 14 votes to have secured to Coal Creek towruhip a retoi administration for the next two vears. He will always cherish a pleasing remembrance of the kind favors shown to him by bis Democratic neighbors and Iriends. This I know from his generous nature and and his Christian manliness.

It has otten been said by Democrats, and Republicans also, that "Capt McCrea has made the best Trustee Coal Creek ever had." Why was this the universally expressed sentiment? Because he has done more to improve the school property and secure gooJ and impartial and efficient teachers, and to make the children comfortable and their parents contented. He has done more to construct gravel roads than anv former trustee this township ever had. He found the school houses and furniture of the ancient and primitive pattern. badly out oi repair, which in two brief years he has greatly improved in many ways, and has built one good frame school house at Walnut Grove, with all modern furniture, and also built a solid brick two roomed temple ol learning at New Richmond, which will be a lasting monument to his memory and foresight for all time. This act the good people ot that vicinity, and, in fact, the whrle township will honor him for it, as it is furnished with the best a:.d latest convenien ccs and improvements. lie has not neglected the road* and bridges, for there has been lour very necessary and good bridges built, and mucr. gravel hauled on the roads that were paid for by the Trustee for the fu st time.

All honor to the name of the wise Democrats who helped to give us such a Trustee, and lony lite *o the bright and thoughtful Democrsts who did their best tore-elect Capi. McCrea. We claim a victory, not a defeat, because the work was too great this time. Such grand reforms onlv come gradually and bv long continuing work and inlightenment. We are not disheartened, for we know that a great change has been wrought, and it will coutinue. More good work was done in the east precinct than ever before, and all feel that nothing was ft undone in the west precinct ir. order to reap an honorable victory. Wre all If 11 happy tor what has been done by Capt McCrea, for this township, and glad that so many Democrat* appreciated his good deeds for them, and for all. that we have no room lor regrets.

We have no harsh words foi those parties who stood in their own light by rclusing to vote for Capt. McCrea a second time after he had done so much for them. The party lash was too severe. They were blinded by their own prejudices, and the flimsy excuses they give for their action will not satisfy the broader minded who tnink more of gravel roads and comfortable school houses than they do of partv fences. So we throw the mantle ot charity about them, and in the language of the "Good Man" ol old and say, Father forgive them they know not what they do.
