Monday night while the politicians were bir-y iigunng on election returns to the exi. usion ol every other thought, a pti/e fight, \sith love of lovelv woman lor the stake?, and without gate money was in progress just outside the city limits. Tne lacth in the case are as lollows: Two well known \oung men belonging to the same set have lor many moons loved the same voung woman, a handsome, dashing damsel who resides on street in the northeast part of the city. Neither ot them could discover that she had a preterence tor either, as she lavished her smile upon each with equal prolusion. She seemed lo not

'I hey were friends, hence there must be some way Revised ot settling the matter, and ii was agreed that a t» st of skill in the ai.lv ait ol hell defense should decide the case and the one ho was vanquished should dra»v out of the contest and leave the field clear lor the victorious rival. This arrangement was made yesterday evening "on the dead," only about tour lriends outside of the principals knowing anything ol it. The services ol a voung man who clerks in a well known business house was selected as lime keener, anil a lellow well known in sporting circles was made retcree. The little hand proceeded to Hutton's grove where ropes w?»re stretched about a sixteen loot rin and lighted bv four campaign torches. The voung men stripped and the rules ol the prize r:ng, according lo the Marquis ol Queetisbury, were read to them, anil thev went at it fisi and skull. Four rounds were fiercely fought, resulting as many knock downs for the least skillful combatant. On account of some technicality however, the light was declared a draw by the reft ice. They therefore stand in the same relation to the damsel that they did before. Thj figh* wa-» kept very quiet but
Tut. J»»ihn.u. got "onto" it. The item is too good to lose, but it will be charitable enough to keep the rames ol the combatants a secret. The tight actually occurred as toiil above, at o'clock sharp Monday evening. One came out withouc a scratch the other has quire a prominent jaw as well as other protuberances on his lace thi-- morning.
