God! the young and lovely go While those whose heads are betiding low And anxious are to see their tomb. Are spared to live through years oi gloom. Thy ways are dark and passing strange Far out leyond our human range. Thy ways are not like ours. O Father, Hut they are better than ours bv far. We would feign adore and love thee When wethluk what thy mercies be..

'I hy ways are not like our, O God, And sometimes when thy chast'ning rod Reminds us of the first great cau*e We try to find in Nature's laws A reason why »ueh things should bo, With our weak minds try to measure Thee. Tlie Other Side of the Story.

To the Kdltor ot the Journal. I noticed in a recent issue of your paper and also in another Crawfordsville paper

an account of the would murder as stat«'d in the article: of one Klmer Marshal, by Al Harris. Uanington. which contained MI1V one side of the dillieulty. The facts arc, that Klmer Marshal, the father of tho child of Miss Cora Harris, not contented with the rum he had wrought, went out on the tre land publicly.and in the presence of her brothels, boasted repeatedly of the work he had done, and said that "he got out of it very slick by marrying the girl." These taunts thnuvn in the face of young Harris are what provoked him to strike the blow. If it is cowardly to stand up for the hom»r of home, then Al Harris struck a cowardly blow. Hut if to defend the honor of a sister and a homo just, then the blow wan justly dealtM. H. II.
