The Teachers Joint Institute at Fairview last Saturday was successful in every way. lhere was a good attendance of teachers, patrons and visitors. An animated discussion grew out of number work as presented by Miss Coyner. The tlrube method was vigorously discussed but was finally settled th.it numbers can be taught best to the youiitf by the use of objects. Considerable discussion sprung also from "Teacher's duty to one another," presented by M. J. Hose. Will Holland made a vigorous speech bringing out the fact that teacher's right to sustain each others in work and character, which many fail to do. You should not strive to down a teacher who has been and is doing good work, simply to further your own selfish ends. That they ought to espouse each others' cause as do doctors, lawyers, ministers and editors, not dispar* age or ignore the work doue by your predecessor and there by do him severe damage among patrons and pupils. Key. E. U. Johnson followed and emphasized the above senlim /nt, and adding that he had taught school 15 years and was in every way in sympathy with the teachers and had an utter contempt for a teacher that tried to down a brother teacher, who merited suc°uSS' stated that as long as they do fail to be a unit in their organization they would have to work for the low wages they now receive. They do not get near enough to pay them to cducate themselves for the profession in a professional seuse and have enough to live 011. They should unanimously demand a better retnuneration. Hut trustees will not pay £-.50 or per day as long as hangers on will teacher for a $1.50 and offer, us Dr. Herryman, says, a premium for a school, rhat is why the best teachers go into other business. After the discussion was closed a vote of thanks was given by the teachers to the patrons and friends of education for thj: interest they manifested in coming out and for the sumptuous dinner they had provided. We think it was a day profitably spent. The next will be the third Saturday 111 fcebmary at Potato Creek. So we expect a good institute there, for the patrons always turn out there liberally. The teachers are working for them. They should know something about their plans, methods and ability to work.

We have a stick in view which we think to be of 1 he best quality and will suit all acquainted with it. He is of a goixi straight, moral, sober charaeteran 1 '-in zive a large bond.
