The editor of the "Evening Orb," not content with having thrown dirt all over iric while a candidate, still continues to sneer at me as a "disappointed, office seeking clod hopper." If he is the great friend of the farmer that he pretends to be, why does he single me out as a target for his vindictive slang, I being a real, Himon pure, laboring farmer! of h-' Eihtor* Crau'fovtlni'ilU Joi'.i'n'U I have received two copies of the 7 Jiccord, the organ of the teach, ers of Montgomery county. Asa teacher I am unwilling that it should go forth as the representative of the united taleni and ability of our profession, since] we number in this county over one himdred and fifty persons, who should be, il we are not, above the average of intelligence. The question arise-, Are we responsible for its contents I think not.

We are furnished by the Trustees and Superintendent with certain blanks to be filled monthly. In No. 8, lying before me, the reports of but twenty odd teachers, out of one hundred and twenty who should have rer-orted, are published. Now if the editor would publish the reports in condensed tabular form the monthly reports of the entire corps of teachers could be given in two columns of the Retard, leaving the other eighteen columns to be filled with miscellaneous matter, selected and original. These remarks are made in no captious spirit of criticism, but are in substance the reflex of what has been said to me by several persons whom I have solicited to subscribe foi the paper. If we wish our paper to wield any influence we must give it a circulation among our patrons, and if we desire such circulatian we must not require them to wade through five dreary columns of repetitions to obtain information that mi^lii have been conveyed in twenty lines of

The Franklin I,ifc Insurance Company of Indianapolis.

To those of our citizens who have not devoted much of their attention to the business of Life Insurance, the amount of money annually drawn from the West to build up and enrich Eastern companies would seem absolutely astonishing. The statistics of the business of 1S70 show that over ninety-two millions of dollars were paid in that year tor life insurance. Of this immense sum, fully one half came from the West, aud considerably more than a million dollars were drawn from Indiana alone. This annual contribution is constantly increasine for 1873 it was nearly THREE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS.

This fact affords an explanation of the circumstance that money is plenty in the Eastein States at five per cent., while here it is scarce at ten per cent. Life insurance is universally felt and seen to be a valuable and beneficial institution, and is favorably regarded by clear sighted and prudent men everywhere. Wen who have a care for their dependent ones WILL insure their lives, and it was seen by many of our most sagacious and public spirited business men,

THE C.RAWJbX)RDS VILLE SATURDAY EVENING JOURNAL.

that the only way to check the immense drain upon our resources was to establish companies in our own midst, which could supply the demand for insurance, and diffuse its benefits, without our being compelled to send our money out of the State.

It was to this end thai the FRANKLIN LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY was organized. In August, I860, about two hundred of our best citizens took policies, generally for as large an amount as it was thought a new company could safely carry, and thus placed the pioneer company of Indiana in operation upon a firm foundation. Since at time the business of the company his been enlarged and extended as rapidly as popible, and it has met with a success which is in every way gratifying, aud which,
