VICTORS AOAIN.—Two closely contested games of croquet played between Ihe Yountsville and Crawfordsville boys last Wednesday afternoon resulted in two victories for the former. The games wore played on the Yountsville grounds.

SOME of the regiments in the southeast f«rt of town complain of the treatment one ot their neighbors extends to his horses. The ofiense alleged is that he feeds them with the bits in their mouths, in consequence of which they are always in bad condition.

11. W. FILLING is canvassing the county for the new State and county atlas to be published during the next year by Andreas, Raskin & Burr. It will be ioth a handsome and valuable work. Five or six canvassers are to be set to work in this county at once.

FIRE.—A lire at the house of Jeptha P.oyland, in the southwest part of town, ?la-it Monday shortly before noon, destroyed bedding, carpets and furniture to the amount of about $00. It caught from a heated thimble in a flue. No damage of conscquencc was done to the house.

JAMES HKKROX, father of Treasurer Kerron, died of paralysis at his home a t-hort distance south of the city on Thursday morning. He was up and walking about the day before. Deceased was a native of Ohio, but came to this county. »laany years ago, where by dint of hard work and economy he had become one of the wealthiest of our farmers. He had reached the age of 70 years. He was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian church in this city. The funeral was conducted from the residence yesterday morning, the body being interred at the old church burial ground near yountsville.
