THIS is the way the Xew* tells that the Democrats have come, into power at Iniianapolis:

The street cleaning expenses, according to one of the organ's footings, for '72-73, amounted to $3S,493, and for the corresponding months of '73-74. $8U,439.

THE following States choose United States Senators the coming winter: Vermont, Maine, Indiana, Nebraska, Wes-t Virginia, Louisiana, Delaware, Florida, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey. New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

THE one term principle evidently has not had a very strong foothold up in Porter county. The Vidette. says there have been only three Auditors of the county in the last 31 years, Z. B. Tifield having served 4 of them and S. W. Smith and R. Bell the other 27. Bell is candidate for re-election.

WITH a Greeley Republican candidate for Representative, a Democratic candidate for Clerk, a Democratic candidate for Treasurer, and a Republican who has promised to employ a Democrat as his deputy, for Auditor, the election of the Reform ticket in this county wouldn't be such a bad thing for the Democracy.

Ax extract from the La Fayette Cuu-

THE Keforin candidates, in their speeches up in Sugar Creek township, have been telling that the county is paying for the gas pipes lately laid in Crawfordsville, and that the county paid $20,000

the new school biiikling in this

city. If this is a fair specimen of their work they do not deserve to receive a

single vote. The county has nothing whatever to do with the gas pipes or

pens, and seemed to attract a good deal of attention. Victors from abroad were surprised to find so respectable a show in this sparsely settled and poorly cultivated region. Floral hall is a large and wed arranged building, and was literally jammed with article* designed lor that department. The nieelianieal depart1 ment was not MI well represented as the others, there being but few buggies, carriages, wagons, plows, drills, etc., on exhibition, although it was an iniprove-

ment on hist year. Warner's big show exhibited on the grounds on Thursday, and ol course helped to swell the crowd, and made it a financial success on that day. It reminded me ol the shows a quarter of a century ago in Crawfordsville. It was a new tiling in these rural parts, and everybody, men, women and children, for miles around went to see the strange sight. And the "Jotter," who had not been at a show for nearly twenty years, and the young "Jotters," who had never been at one at all, were tin hand and saw the ponderous elephant, the big lions, the. ugly camel, and all the rest of the curious animals, besides the tall

ridiiiir and the "grand and lofty tumbling" in the circus. I observed good Christian people of all denominations on hand, who thought it not demoralizing to heer ilie lions roar or see the elephant flop his big ears nor to see a beautiful girl pertoiin the most wonderful feats on the trapeze, the slack rope and on horseback, and finally to walk oil the smooth ceiling with her head downwards.
