fx the article ou our school funds on the inside of this paper appears an error which was overlooked by the proof reader. In the table the interest iu two or three cases is computed at 8 per cent, where it should have been 7. The error is immaterial, as it does not affect the allowing which the table was designed to make.

LAST Thursday was a big day for the Indianapolis exposition. A procession of six hundred wagons representing nearly every business and trade in the city paraded the streets, making the grandest display of the kind ever witnessed in the State. The exposition is fully equal in every respect to that of last year, and in many things greatly superior.

IF the Republicans of this State should organize and at a given signal seize the office and seal of the Governor and take possession of the county offices now held by Democrats we should have a state of affairs which would no moie justify the inteference of the General Government than that of Louisiana does now. There had been a contest over the election 'here, but that had been settled in the he only way known for such settlement ong ago, and it is too late for the defeated party to open the contest again any shape, much less to resort to viopuce as it has done.

THE candidates for the Legislature in Vigo county weie receutly interrogated as to their position on the proposed repeal of the Baxter law. The Democrats respond by lavoring the repeal and the Republicans by opposing it. This is the I case in nearly every county. It matters little how good a temperance man a

THE SCHOOL FUNDS AG AIX. "A Reform Democrat" contributes another chapter this week to the history of the management of the school funds in tbiscounty. It should be borne in mind that the charges made against the Audit- 'jel, eror in these communications are not the I work of a political opponent. They arc brought by a Democratic official who Boys, before

The defense of "L' Homme Qui Rit" last week is not the kind of defense called for when such serious charges are made against a public officer. It is no defense of Mr. Watson to ridicule Mr. Clodfelter. The latter is a public officer as well as the former. His duties are defined by law as well as those of Mr. Watson. Among the most important of those duties is that of investigating the condition of

by legislation. It so happened that 1 was a member of ihe committee which reported the law now in force. The present law worked well for a lime, but the time has come to change it in order to adapt it to the present condition of the .State. If I were left to submit a bill on this subject 1 would not take this one. This law would not be my first choice. If I were to select a law, I would take one which would not include vinous and malt liquors. But liquor sellers will not accept such a law nor will they live up to ii, and the temperance men will not be satisfied with it therefore it would be inoperative. Seeing this condition of affairs, and deeming myself that there should be a change in the temperance law of the State I shall vote for the bill which the temperance men of tiie State are in favor of and intend to enforce. There is one provision in the law mixed up with the crude provisions, to which I give- niy hearty consent. That is the provision which emancipates woman from the condition in which she has hitlihcr to sue her. For that
