—The harvest whieli is now eiuleil iIroin medium to gool. —Apjile, peach and grajje trees are unusually prolific. The yiekl will lie superabundant. —The third quarterly meeting for thieonterence year was held at llomnev last •Sunday, Elder McMullen on the stand.
That part of the berry crop that hath reached maturity is well nigh exhausted. The rush of foragers has been temporarily suspended and their pans, are pendent on the wall. —Chinch bugs are quite numerous, with considerable sliow of damage. Alter doing" some of the wheat they betook themselves to the growing com, which is fast deposing Wore their ravages. The probabilities are that acres of f".ie, thrifty corn will be completely destroyed. —One of the village boys, taking advantage of the absence of the proprietor, trained an entrance through an open window into the grocery store of .S. Montgomery and shortly after was making irlad the hearts and cool the throats of his young associates by the copious stream from Mr. M.'s Artie soda fount. —Something new and sensational is announced for the 25th of the month. The
Patrons are to picnic 'ne.ith the whispering boughs of Granger Dunkle's breezy grove, situated 2j miles east of Linden. Aside from the information that there will be good speaking, good music, a l.irce attendance and a multiplicity of good things to eat I have not learned the programme.

—Chinch bugs are cluttering on the corn and damaging it considerably in places. —Mr. Thos. C. Green has moved to Wavnetown. Sorry to lose Mr. Green's citizenship, —Farmers are stacking wheat and making hay, while their wives and daughters are "crusading" the fence rows in search of berries —Mr. John McJimsey, the worthy landlord of our hotel, has removed the old dilapidated, lilliputian, rectangular -1.ingle that so long served for a sign and has erected a large sightly one. —As the undersigned's ''ma" was recently perambulating the premises she discovered an ovicular monstrosity in what was apparently a double velked egg. But upon breaking the shell, in one end of it was found a large yelk and in the other another perfectly formed egg, of ordinary size, with a shell as hard its the one that enclosed it. Where is the philosopher who will explain the phenomenon? We presume the hen thought "to kill two birds with one -tone" during the warm weather and financial embarrassments, and we are willing to risk a nickel that she couldn't lay another one like it. —James Franklin Hurt, son of Absalom Hurt, and brother of Dr. Hurt of this place, died of typhoid fever at his
residence, three and a half miles north of
town on the nieht of the 6th inst. Mr.
Hurt was born near Jamestown, Boone °"s
