Decoration Day will probably not be observed in this city,' this year, as several attempts have been made by those who tire willing to lend their assistance to get the people together to make the necessary arrnngenients, but the meetings in each instance have proved failures. We understand there is a fund of over $100 which could be applied to the purpose, and all that would be required would be a little time and a little work on the part of all. But everybody seems to be too busy. Rip Van Winkle truly said: "When we are dead, ho*v soon forgot."
In accordance with the verdict of the jury, Judge Thomas last Saturday pronounced sentence upon John Shehan, John Sullivan and Mike O'Neal, the boys who abstracted the money from Campbell & Harter's store, and Lew Smith, colored, who pocketed Mrs. Geo. Allen's watch. They were sentenced to the House of llefuge for three years. On Monday Sheriff Kelsey took the boys over to Plainfield, but upon reaching there lie learned that they could not be received Jfor the reason that the three first named were over 1(5 years of age. The statute under which they were sentenced had been repealed by the last Legislature, and the attention neither of the court nor of the attorneys on cither hide had been called to it. Smith was not received because of some informality the sentence. This, however, will be corrected and he sent back. The error in the verdict will not result in a release1 of the culprits, but will simply necessitate a new trial of those who did not piead guilty.

Last Friday evening was given to the Seniors to deliver their parting admonition. After the Calliopean members had delivered theirs they re.-olved to attend the Lyceum, a tiling which has been customary between the two societies for several years. It seems, however, that at a previous meeting the Lyceum had pasved a motion to admit no visitors. Instead of that they said nothing until the Calliopean members had taken their places in the hall, not even giving them notice of their previous action, at the door. A motion was then made and carried, in spite of the honest request of the only remaining speaker of the evening for them to be permitted to remain, that they withdraw. The feelings of the Lyceumites were expressed then in cheering and clapping of hands much to the discomfiture of the Calliopeans. It was taken by the Calliopeans as an insult, since the members of the Lyceum have in time past come into the Calliopean under similar circumstances, and were always welcomed.
It should be borne in mind that the Calliopean Freshmen willgive anexhibition at the College chapel next Friday evening. The music will by the Olios. The programme is as follows":

^National uiiv-itti»» ol'tliulMii Delta 'I'lK-ta. Phe twenty-sixth national convention of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity closed its session in this city last evening. The delegation was full, consisting of representatives from most of the States, from New York to California, from 3Iichigan to Georgia, and numbered about sixty delegates.
The convention organized on Wednesday morning by electing officers as follows: President, C. D. Whitehead, Indianapolis, Ind.: First Vice President, C. M. Beckwit.li, Sewanee, Tenn. Second Vice President, S W. Carpenter, New York Secretary, 11. G. Bradford! New Albany, Ind. Fii\st Assistant Secretary, E. Anderson, Oxford, Ga. Second Assistant Secretary, C. T. Jamison, Wooster, O. Marshal, W. T. Ringland, Crawfordsville, Ind,
The work of the convention proceeded with the utmost harmony throughout. Numerous letters were read from the alumni members in all parts of the country. One very cheering one was read from the pen of James Gookins, at Munich, Bavaria,,who.is well known in this community. lhe literary exercises took place at Center church last night in accordance •with the following programme: "The Essentials in Poetry," by Hon. Byron K. Elliott, of Indianapolis "Phi Delti lheta Greeting," poem, bv Col. Clias. P. Jacobs, of Indianapolis "Our Honored Dead, by C. D. Whitehead, of Patuskaln, O. Judge Elliott's address was truly a scholarly production and w.13 an excellent treat to the students of the human jninci. Col. Jacobs'poem was in every line classic and grand. Mr. Whitehead's was the closing address, a tribute to the memory of the dead. Of the whole membership, now numbering about 2.500, the dead list numbers fifty-seven. He alluded in a touching manner to the mem°ry of Marshall Mills, Daniel Roderick ana Charles Rice, who died recently at this college. After the literary exercise the delegates, with their ladies and invited guests, adjourned to the Richardson House to partake of the meat for the body. During the supper toasts
