rested for the theft. One of the bovs, O'Xeall, made confession to Mr. Harter. lie went into the store on Thursday, he said, the clerks all being busy. Seeing a pocket book on the desk lie picked it up and put it in his pocket. When he returned to the street he was met bv the
other boys, and a proposition for an equal division of the money was made and accepted. The boys made a visit to La Fayette, and probably spent money pretty freely. Ilut realizing the danger they were incurring by carrying the money and |ocket Hook about with them they sought to hide them. The pocket book, with the notes and a portion of the currency, was liiil in a hollow tree near the trestle work on the I., C. & f\ \V. Railway, from which it was necessary to use an ax to recover it. About $40 in currency was buried in the ground near Lockhart's mill. These were found and returned on Tuesday. The notes, drafts

There he constructed his first rude cabin in an unbroken forest. George Heitkain has returned from thc principal eastern cities, whither lie went several days ago for his Spring stock, and for an evidence of fine taste in the selection of goods, an inspection of his magnificent slock is proof conclu sive. At no time since the opening of this mammoth clothing and merchant tailoring house has as fine a stock of goods been bought for it as this last new invoice of Spring and Summer poods. Special attention has been given in the selection of men aud boys' clothing, his stock in this line being one of the finest ever brought to this city. Also in gents' furnishing goods there is no house in the State that can show any costlier or finer goods in this line than Heitkain, as a glimpse at his show ease will prove, In piece goods his patrons may iest assured his entire stock is mo«t excellent, consisting of all the latest, best and most stylish patterns, such as delight the eye of the connoisseur and as non« but strictly first class, practical workmen are em' ployed, you are morally certain of getting a strictly first class fit.
