Oct. 11, a tire was discovered in the rear

of Ong's bakery, formerly occupied by J. C. O. Tolburt, and in a few minutes it

spread north to Tolburt & Peterinan's

store, and south to Burdin's tin shop,

and in a few minutes longer all three

buildings were in a blaze, the fire spread­

ing rapidly north and south, it was

hoped for a while tknt the fire could lie

stopped at the alley between Tolburt

& Peterman and Miller, McCampbell &

Oldshue. Men were on the roof with plenty of water welting it thoroughly,

but the flames leaped across the alley

over the wet roof of M., McC. & O. to
