COL. .Inns HEAKII, of ('rawfordsville, Trustee of the Institute for the Blind, gave us a call this morning. He yesterday filed his oath as Trustee for the fourth term, having been in olliee twelve years. He is now in his 70th year. He came to Indiana Territory in 1811, and has lived in Montgomery county 50 years. More than half a century ago he was commissioned justice of the peace in Wayne county. Mr. Beard is still hale, hearty and spry for a person of his age. In that early day Wayne county was considered unhealthy, us also the rich -egion between White Water and White River. Crawfordsville being high and dry was the point to which all victims ol the ague fled. Mr. Beard being shaken out ol Wayne, county, settled at Crawford

Tim sight of a little boy not over ten years old staggering and reeling along the streets, last Saturday night, attracted the derision of some and the pity of others. Cursing and abusing some of the boys who had gathered around liiiu, he was attacked by one of them and soundly whipped, and then bleeding and dirty he slunk out of sight. We retrain from giving the name of the boy for the sake of himself and the family, but what can be said in defense of the man who gave

HYMENEAL.- tine of tho most impor tent topics of the week has been the marriage of Mr. Stephen C. Campbell, of: Crawfordsville, Intl., and Miss I.i/.zie E. Powell of this city. The bridegroom is but little known in this city, but is, we learn, most respectably connected, of thorough business attainments, and well-to-do in the world, and lias the bearing of a gentleman. The social position of the lair bride is second to none in our place, and we join the many friends of the happy pair in wishing them a long life and every attainbale bliss.—,Yac Cantic Cuurirr.
THE lirst number of the 1'nlrrjnist: and the AYus, at Wavcland, have reached our table. The former is published by by F. B. Rose, and the latter by W. H. Boswcll, of the Ladoga lknM. Neither of the papers are printed in Waveland, but we understand this arrangement is only temporary. They present creditable appearances and we wish them both success, but we very much doubt whether the town will be able to extend patronage sufficient to keep them both alive.
FROM the Ladoga //rruhl we learn that Miss Emma Hardy undertook to put an end to her troubles and trials of this world on Monday morning of last week, by taking an ounce of laudnuin which failed to accomplish the desired end. On the same evening she took arsenic. Dr. Drake was called in who administered antidotes, and saved her life. Disappointment in love is given as a ieiLson for the rash act.
