THE RESULT IN INDIANA.

The election on Tuesday was hotly contested all over theState. Some counties made Hepublican gains and others Democratic. Xhe vote on the State tic'.cet is so cloie that the official returns will be ipquired to determine the result. Republicans and Democrats have been alternately hopeful and despondent.

The Republicans gain two Congressmen, Casun and Hunter, in place of Manson and Voorhees in the 7th and 8th Districts.

expiration of his sentence, lie was greatly chagrined at the failure of his search, but acknowledged the futility of further ellbrt and went away. Nothing was heard of the young man from that time until a few days ago, when he appeared with a companion. They remained over night, and after their departure next morning it was discovered that an immense pile of dirt had been dug up at the roots of a large oak by the road side. On examining the excavation, a place was discovered from which box about two feet long and eighteen inches wide had been taken, decayed portions of the box being found near bv.

When the young man and his companion returned a livery team they had hired at a small town near Shepardstown they were observed to have a tin 1MX, which was not in their posre-wion when they hired the team. All these facts tend to the conclusion that the companion was the quartermaster himself, and that he returned to secure the treasure over which the ageit oak had stood guard for nine vears.
