Rather more than the nsua number of people were in town on that' day, and it is to be regretted that this distinguished guardian of the constitution lost such an opportunity of addressing them. In the afternoon Col. John S. Williams went over the usual list of charged against Grant, speaking to an audience of about five hundred persons in the Court House vard.

Mr. Hendricks reads this letter to prove that Grant received presents after his election to the Presidency. The letter which Mr. Hendricks reads, however, is dated in February, 1869, while the orignal letter is dated February, 1860, three years before Grant's inauguration. This is a substantial forgery, which, so far as we know, Mr. Plendricks has not repeated since it was exposed. Will other Democratic speakers take notice of the exposure, and be equally honest'/

A special dispatch to the Indianapolis /y'ntiwt of yesterday says John S. Williania addressed a crowd of ^,il()U at this place on Tuesday afternoon. Several gentlemen counted the persons composing that crowd. On the south side of tiie aisle, where the crowd was largest, there were only 19IJ persons, according to the count of one gentleman. The number on the north side was considerably less, being at one time by actual count only 120. It will thus be seen that we have made a very liberal estimate in reporting the crowd at 50(1, as we do in another place.

W the Srntiwl ot TucsiJav morning (.•nine it wns learned for the lin-t time that Gov. Palmer would be unable to lill his appointment at this place 011 tliat day. It is lair to suppose, therefore, that the people who came in from the country, who, of course, could have had 110 opportunity to learn that the speaker would not be here, constituted all of the audience that Palmer would have had from that source il he had been here. The Greeley men can thus tee what kind of success their meeting would have been. Palmer was a big gun, the Governor of a great State and ranked by Democrats next to Trumbull. On almost every Saturday there are more people in town than enme last Tuesday with the combined attractions of this man, the fair and the teachers' institute to draw them. And yetthere are tlio.-e who profess to believe that "Greeley will sweep the country."
