The Crencent, in an article evidently designed to convince its readers of the necessity of a change of policy in the administration and a restoration of the Democratic party to jo\ver, uses the following language: "After taxing the people in a manner unprecedented in the history of any nation, after several branches of industry have been taxed put of existence, and much of the surplus earnings of the masses have been drawn into that huge maelstrom, the United States Treasury then as an apology for all this robbery, we are llauntingly told that there ha? been a great reduction of the national debt! What a mockery to the American people! In comparison to the vast sums wruuj from the over-worked, over-bur-dened tax payers, the reduction of the public debt is

This was the political article, written for effect. In the local column of the same paper appeared the following directly contradictory statement: "Building is progressing rapidly in Frankfort. Old frames are being moved off the square to cive place to more pretentious structures. Every business is prospering, and all are happy. Activity and progress is the order of the day. The prospects for a wheat crop are flattering, and farmers feel that they have a good home market for their products. This gives thein greater energy."

office in the country. The fact is indisputable that, not only at Frankfort, but every where, "Every business is prospering, and all are happy. Activity and progress is the order of the day." Then what mean these charges about "robbery," industries "taxed out of existence," "vast sums wrung from over-work,

ed, over-burdened tax-payers?" Is it' consistent or honest to parade them in the face of such evidences of prosperity as are continually presented to us from all quarters? The Cretcent knows, and every grumbler of any political party who talks about high taxes and "robbery" knows, that a large share of the taxes paid by the people of Indiana are taxes voted upon themselves for railroads and other public improvements. They are taxes for which no political party in responsible, and they are paid, for the most part, cheerfully. We suggest to the Cretcent that, in view of the admitted prosperity at Frankfort and in nearly every other place, it might accurately describe the condition of the country by saying, "There is grumbling, in spite of the prosperity cf all classes."

Bl'.t.MONT, the chief of the Democratic National Central Committee, was denounced at a ratification meeting of Liberals and Democrats at St. I.ouis, last Saturday night, as the "bondholder's agent, by whom the people of Missouri did not propose to be governed." Evidently the breach between the Grceleyites and the straights in the Democratic camp is a serious one.

Six months ago about one hundred copies of the New York Tribune were taken at this poBtoflicc. Since that time the number has been reduced to about fifty. Of these two or three are taken by Democrats. Of the forty-sewn or eight Republicans who are yet subscribers not one, so far as heard from, will give any kind of support to Greeley for the Presidency.
