8 CRAWFORDSVILLE JOURNAL: NOVEMBER 11, 1869.
INDIANAPOLIS EXCURSION.—The Indianapolis papers furnish full reports of the sayings and doings at the reception extended to the Crawfordsville City Council and citizens by the Council and citizens of Indianapolis. The party, about seventy-live in number, left Crawfordsville at 10 A. M., in the new coaches on the I.. B. it W. Ilailroad. and was received in carriages at the Union Depot Indianapolis, at noon and escorted thence over the city. Dinner was served up to them at -I r. m., at the Pyle House, kept by a Councilman, who of course knew how to feed them. Speeches were made by Mayors Macauley ami Speed, Colonel Willson and Generals Man.son and Coburn. Crawfordsville and Montgomery county were not forgotten' by the speakers from our city. Colonel AVillson. in the course of his remarks stated that thirteen engines and four hundred freight cars had been ordered for the road. Our Council were permitted to see how they do business in the City Council of Indianapolis, and had the honor to be present when the ordinance was passed appropriating fortylive thousand dollars on the part of Indianapolis in aid of the road to which thejr were indebted for the pleasures of the day. The party left the Union Depot at .11 i'. m. and in a little over two hours were at their respective doniicils, from which they issued on Tuesday morning in a remarkably good condition, ready to attest to the generous hospitality of the citizens at the Capital.

DA SILVA'S LECTURE.—Dr. Louis da Silva, who claims to be the genuine "late Surgeon to the Emperor Maxiinillian," delivered his lecture entitled, "The History of the Jesuits,to a respectable audience at Center Church on Monday evening. He made some interesting statements concerning the present status and workings of the llomish Church in Europe and America, warranting him in the belief, which is shared by a. large portion of the reading and thinking class of our own country, that Catholicism is making slow but certain preparations for its establishment as the reigning power in America. He speaks English much after the fashion of a half naturalized Frenchman. But for this fact and his frequent manifestation of excessive vanity, his lecture was good enough for a very intelligen audience.
II. II. THORNBUUG, of Franklin township. whom we remember for hospitalities once extended, called on us last Saturday. We once spent a day in canvassing Union, Franklin and Sugar Creek townships in the direction of Darlington, for subsribers to the JOURNAL, and rode up to Mr. T.'s late in the evening, having found but two Republicans during the day who were not subscribers, and were kindly taken in by him for the night. It was in accordance with his advice, for the reason that the field is already occupied, that we hurried back to the office, wishing some other postoflice could do as well for the JOURNAL as Darlington.
FILL YOUR CELLARS.—All, rich and poor, should see that their cellars are well stocked this Autumn with provisfor Winter. Crops are plenty this year, and though some articles have been completely destroyed by the early frosts, there is yet an abundance for all. Secure the potatoes, turnips, beets parsnips, beans and other garden and farm products. The hard days of Winter will come when it will be seen how much better it is to go to the cellar than to the market or grocery.
P. S. KENNEDY says lie had twojsowson the first of last January, from which he has sold one hundred dollars worth of pigs, besides supplying his family for the Winter. He has the sows yet, and pigs enough to bring him fifty dollars more.

EX-TREASURER Mvrick has deferred his departure for the West and gone to teaching school near Ladoga. Its a hard thing. Captain, for a man who is bent on farm life to go into a school room, but its a good thing to cultivate a man's patience, if he has any.
