ALAMO TATTMXGS.
Benjamin Willis' horses ran awsiy with him last week, throwing him out of the wagon and breaking his leg and smashing up his ribs considerably.
Noah W. Grimes and our illustrious Township Trustee, Marion Watson, bet a bushel of potatoes on the Ohio election, the potatoes to be carried to the winner in a sack on horseback. Noah is the winner. The Tattler predicts that Brother Grimes will not get his potatoes unless Uncle Sammy digs them and loads them on the horse for his affectionate son.
Work was commenced in earnest, last Monday morning, on the Yountsville & Alamo Gravel Koatl extension. The road is being built by the "neighbors,'" all turning out and paying their stock in work. The Tattler is in favor of gravel roads in general and this one in particular. He hopes that Col. McMacken will be ''kinder aisy like" on him, when he goes to work, for this friendly notice.
Our fat hogs are going fast. Jim Gilkey and J. C. McKinsey, of Prospect Hill, are the principal purchasers, they having bought over live hundred head at 8% cents per pound, gross weight. That dish of oysters, gentlemen
In town last Saturday I met my whilom friend and old student companion, Andrew J. Shular. Shular is one of our most successful farmers and stock dealers. Beginning with nothing, he has acquired a competence before the meridian of life. He i3 going West to find some location wnere he can double his money faster. He will do to go West. A word right here. Drones are not wanted in the new States and Territories. The Tattler went out West when he reached his majority, fully expecting that the benightened people whom he should find, would send him to Congress. But alas! the farther west he went the more smart men he found. Moral: Young man, unless you are sharper than double-triggered lightning don't "go West expecting promotion.
The erudite Rattler having expressed himself on the woman suffrage question, it behooves the Tattler to show his hand. The Tattler is mixed, or rather the question is mixed with him. But I don't mind talking to Rattler on the subject a little. Well now, Rattler, can you remember that when it wasn't the style for our mothers to attend political meetings the aforesaid political meetings were not exactly lit for any decent person to attend? Whisky-drinking, lighting, gambling in the crowd, and obscene jests on the part of the orators were the order of the day. Is it so now Does it degrade the ladies to listen to those refined and classical orations of such men as Hendricks, Nelson and Lane? The Tattler thinks not, and from this he draws the inference that they would not lose any refinement by attending elections. Again, Rattler, did you ever teach school If so have you not noticed that girls learn as fast as boys, till they reach the age of 12 to 14 years, when as a rule they lag behind their male companions? 'Why is this so The Tattler thinks that it is because girls have very few incentives to mental culture. They cunnot understand that knowledge should be valued for its inherent, and not its apparent worth, and therefore they cease to study as soon as they are old enough to take a peep at their doleful, comfortless, objectless, ambitionless future. The Tattler moves that every correspondent of the JOURNAL forthwith give his opinion on the woman question. Come, let us make our page to bloom and blossom as a mighty sunflower. TOM TATTLER.
