THESNOW STORM.—Greatly to the surpriseof every one this part of the country was visited on last Friday night by one of the greatest snow storms which has occurred for many years this early in the season. In 1862 we remember there was a similar fall of snow, though the weather was not so cold. Last Saturday morning when nature was least prepared for it the earth was covered to the depth of from four to six inches with a regular winter snow. The snow falling upon the leaves was moist enough to cling to them, and it piled up so thick that the branches began everywhere to bend under their unusual burden, the very tops of many evergreens and fruit trees touching the ground. The damage done to fruit trees is very great, as in many eases they were already burdened with as* much fruit as they could well stand up under. Jn some orchards the extensive crop of winter apples was still on the trees. These arc all frozen and unlit for use except to make cider. Ami the cold weather continues. Everybody thought that when the snow that fel 1 last Saturday had disappeared the long, delicious Indian Summer would set in. JJut the days arc creeping by, and no sign of Indian Summer yet. On the contrary, the rigorous north wind blows with as keen and nipping a blast as in mid-winter. The leaves, already loosend by the snow storm, let go their feeble hold upon the trees and fluttered down in showers, covering the earth with a carpet whose rich summer verdure was still unmixed with the gayer hues of Autumn. The wether at present shows no symptoms of relaxing its rigor, and the people are beginning to wonder if wo arc going to have any more warm weather this year, and, if so, when.

AN OLD CITIZEN GONE.—JudgeThomas Glenn an old and highly esteemed citizen of Brown township, died at his residence on Thursday, the 21st inst. Judge Glenn came to this county about forty years ago, and his name appears conspicuously in its early history, lie was a practical surveyor and did much toward making the original survey of the lands in this county. He lilled the oflicc of Probate Judge for some time, both with credit to himself and honor to the people.-. He leaves a large circle of friends and acquaintances to mourn his departure.

PRICES OF STOCK AND PHODCCK.—Mr. W. P. Ramey, auctioneer at the sales of Messrs. Line, Gregg and Sellers last week, furnishes us with the following' list of prices: Corn in the field, lifteen to twenty-live dollars wheat in bushel, one dollar and three cents to one dollar and five cents horses, at Gregg's one hundred and twenty-live dollars to one hundred and forty-eight dollars cattle, yearlings last Spring, twenty-five to thirty-live dollars stock hogs, eight to ten dollars per hundred one yearling mule, eighty dollars.

A BKAPTIKI-L PRESENT.—'We were pleasantly surprised the other day when Johnny Robinson came rushing into our sanctum, nearly out of breath, and placed in our hands a package which consumed no time in opening, and in which we found a splendid gold pen, holder and ease, both of Avliich bore the manufacturer's names, Stewart & Huffman. Accompanying the package were the compliments of L. A. Footc fc Co. We can say of a truth that it is one of the best pens we have ever scribbled with.

ZAOK. our long-time engine, now posts at the Richardson House for twentyseven dollars per month and board and washing, wages which speak for the liberality of the good landlord. Zach has set an example of industry and economy since lie came here that many of the white lads of the city would be profited in following. He has just completed a house out of the proceeds of his labor and rented it out while he looks around for an industrious wife to help him live in it.

A PARTY from Danville, consisting of two Kesler brothers and a son of exSheriff Straughan, of Hendricks county, passed through the city on Monday. They had been on a hunting excursion in the Illinois prairies, but the weather getting too cold for them they were forced to return. Fortunately they had a covered wagon and a prairie chicken, the latter of which they hoped would keep starvation out of their wagon until they reached home.

THK Indianapolis Mirror makes the following personal allusion: "The best-looking man in Crawfordsville is Albert 1). Thomas, a lawyer. He is single and a thorough gentleman." lie's "spoken for" though.

MANY of the shade trees on the streets gave way in limb or body to the weight of snow which pressed upon them from the fall of Friday nigh! Poor sinners are rarely so pressed with blessings as are the trees with their weight of snow.
