John Little's ciuld that was bitten by the copperheiul, was cured by the application of a mad stone, owned by aVIrs. VViiiclaiid. The existence of the mad stone has always been considered mythical, if Mrs. Wineland owns a real nuul stone it should be purchased by the county, and kept at the Recorder's oflice for the use of the public.
One day last week, Harry Lewis, while cradling round a stump, laid the cradle down to remove some corn stalks, when, stepping back, he stepped with his bare foot and whole weight on the scythe, splitting his foot from toe to heel. He will not. be able to walk for weeks.
Bob Sfcimson, the efficient Principal of Alamo Academy, has been paying tribute to the "Dignity of Labor," by "going in on his muscle1'in the harvest field.
Daniel II. Gilkey ran a straw in his eye while shocking wheat, which disabled him for several days.
Mrs. Humphre}-, wife of Robert Humphrey, one of our oldest pioneers, has been seriously ill for some time.
M. D. White passed by where the Tattler was binding \^pit last Satur day. Wonder if he wa3 hunting a job in the harvest field. "The harvest is great, and the laborers are few." To-day (July 12, not much over one half the wheat is in shock. Nearly all the farmers have been running with too small a force. The crop of straw is immense, but the heads are not generally well filled, and good judges say that the crop will not be as heavy as iti 1864
The Tattler has fifteen acres of White and Alabama wheat which made eight hundred and ten dozen large sheaves. Who can beat itV Let fogies who don't believe in "book fanning"' come to the Tattler and he will show them how to farm.

TI.e farmers in this vicinity are vei'v busv. Clover hay has been considerably injured by the frequent rains The wheat crop is exceedingly good, though some was lost on account of its being blown down by the heavy winds. The stalks are very tall. In a field near by, of white srnootn Mediterranean wheat, some straws measured seven feet. They stood erect and supported lung, wellfilled heads of extra large grained wheat. All over the field, the wheat was about six feet high There will be an abundance of straw for cattle next Winter. According to the old proverb, "Heavy straw, hard Winter,'' we may look out for severe cold next
Winter. Harvest hands have been and are still very scarce in this section. Every man seems to be harvesting on his own hook, that is with his own
help. Oats is rather late, but looks very ^well. There will be a little time between wheat harvest and oats harvest to plow the corn, which looks fresh and vigorous. The fields are very clear of weeds, considering the rainy
season. Gardens in this part of the country look delightful. Every chorry tree around, was loaded with bright, red fruit, which, while a temptation not to be resisted by the birds, has no doubt added much to the excellence of the
harvest dinners. Mr Williams is building a black smith shop, and Mrs. Co' is having her house repaired, extrudes in improvement which it would well for other citizes to follow.

I see that some man over the signature of "A. J. II." is disposed to accuse me doing in justice to the Rev. Mr. Way mire. Permit me to say, that if I have done so it was uninten tionally. "Honor to whom honor is due," and justice to all. I supposed that every one knew that Mr. Waymire was expelled from the United Brethren church for joining the Masons
A few days ago, the dogs in these parts made a raid on the sheep of Mr. Dapid Wray, W. K. and F. A. White, and killed and wounded about thirty-five. None of the dogs were killed, as wo have but few in this neighborhood. W. K. White has onlv live, while the other neighbors have from that down to one.

IRON ORE IN FdllNTAIK COUNTY. To the Editors Crawfordsville Journal: The region of country about Chambersburg, Fountain county, has loner given every indication of the presence of iron ore. Within a few years several beds have been discovered. A short time ago, Judge Coates, an intelligent gentleman of Fountain county, employed a geologist to come and examine the beds of iron and coal about Chambersburgh. A large quantity of iron was found, yielding from fifty to eighty per cent, of the purest quality of iron. The beds were found to extend about five miles north of Chambersbuigh, and nearly to Shawnee Mills.
Since the above examination, other beds of iron have been discovered, and also large quantities of coal. Block coal, said to be better for heating purposes than the Danville coal, has been found in considerable abundance.
Near Hillsboro, on the bluffs of Coal Creek, are large quarries of good grindstone and also red sandstone lor building purposes.
It is the opinion of those who have examined these beds of iron and coal and the quarries of stone, that there will soon be a large manufacturing city built near Chambersburg. Several business men from LaFaycttc have visited the place for the purpose of having these mines worked. It is the general opinion that there are sufficient quantities of iron here to supply the whole State for three hundred years.
Persons wishing to visit these mines, or obtain any further information concerning them, are referred to Judge Coates or Elim McBroom.
