WHITE-HANDED agriculturists can cipher fast dreams of riches from one crop but the old farmer does not always hang his hat on the same peg.
Tin Prairie Farmer says a Kentucky woman leels more pride in having the first green peas than the first Spring bonnet.
Tin Wisconsin Farmer says castoroil will keep leather soft, pliable and black, though not glossy, and quite impervious to water.
A chUTAiN cine for founder in a horse, according to a correspondent ol the Jlartd arid, is to stand him in water to hid belly.
THE plan of raising enough plum trees to supply the eurculio, and the truit-grower too. is like trying to put out fire by piling on wood.

MA N farnu-rs form good resolutions drring the winter for agricultural and horticultural operations, which they hope to reduce to practice as the seasons advance. They are anxious to get at it, and often undertake too much. One of these resolutions is. generall}". and we speak from experience, to scraoe and clean the fruit trees earl}' in the spring, in order to head off insect depredations this has been and is frequently done too ^arly in the season. •'To iret up seeds quickly, ^ritc-rf correspondent, "maj' appear a very trivial matter but I have known many persons to blame their seedsmen for what really arose from other 5auses. "When you have prepared your seed-bed, water it copiously, let it then stand for about an hour. Sow and ruke in do not cover with the spade. If they are strong seeds, .such as cabbage, scatter them in, and then rake. Leave no alleys, if you do the atmosphere penetrate* directly through the raised earth, and perishes the seeds. Keep the bed wet until the seeds come up. The cause of failure is most generally this: the beds at first arc watered, the seeds I germinate, but a hard crust is formed, through which the young plants arc not able to push, and die off before seeing the light. The rake for this purpose should be furnished with long, sharp te«th. An American steel rake is all thai codld be desired it fctcpVfre* from f»st, and does not foul like tke old-faqbioned English rake."
