Ev«rv one who lias mid I rving's Sketch I.iook will remember the story of Kip Van "Winkle, wlio. bein.u- out on a huntiu»- excursion, fell into a profound slumber which lasted great many years. "When lie went to sleep, the Colonies were loyal to the British Kin**-, but when he awoke the ar of Independence had been fought and won. and '•change'" was "written upon everything around him, .-o that Hip was a stranger lie re but, to him, the evening before, he had hosts of boon companions, llis bewilderment is truly laughable.
Alamo has just awakened from a Kip Van Winkle sleep. Twenty years ago it was a pleasant, enterprissing village, but it went to sleep. And while Waveland and Ladoga grew while Crawlordsville reared tine rows of brick blocks, and massive stone fronts while Chicago leaped from the swaddling bands of a small town to that of a full grown, metropolitan city while on the dreary sands of the Pacific, Sanfrancisco rose magic like to be one ot the leading cities of the world. Alamo slumbered on. .But it is now fully aroused. The Academy is in full blast. All hail the Alamo Academy.' People are whitewashing. painting and building. The corners are free from loafers, and several new houses are going up. John \\. Copner savs the town is to be incorporated, the streets graded, the side walks graveled «£e. Keep the ball rolling John.
There was a talk, a few days ago. of having a whisky saloon ac Alamo. Unless the Tattler greatly mistakes the temper of the people, i: will not be healthy for any one to start an institution of that kind in our village. If the law will not protect u-. we propose to protect ourselves. Let a- not be misunderstood in this r.iaiier. Whoever

It is weir known to most of our readers that Mr. Phillip Pruett lost the sight of both of his eyes last winter. Some six weeks since by his request we sent for the book of Psalms in raised letters, and we are informed that now, he reads it readily, in fact he has the whole book nearly memorized. This certainly is quick work.

HAVE a fine PIANO for sale at a great bargain. It is no common second-hand Piano which some one is trying to get rid of, but an elegant instrument of wonderful sweet tone. If you don't believe it, go and see it., and judge for yourself. For a short time only. Head what is said of it:
CRAWFORDSVILLE, March 23.
A. C. JENNISOX—Dear Sir: I have had the pleasure of playing upon the excellent Piano which you offer for sale. As to touch, it is charming in tone, it is rieli and solid, excelling especially in the evenness which extends throughout its entire compass, octave. The case is very handsome. My surprise upon finding it so fine an instrument was very agreeable.
Yours, sincerely, CHAS. W. RICE. Inquire of ALBERT C. JENNISON.
