RALLYING cry of the Blair-ite Democracy—"Go in, Finncgans! I'm with ye."
GRANT will make no speeches this campaign. Prentice says he will smoke his cigar and Colfax can take the stump.
A roLixiCAL editor threatened to give his cotemporary a "piece of his mind." "Don't do it," was the reply, "you have none to spare."
"NONE but the brave deserve the fair." Our devil at our elbow cruelly suggests "and none but the brave can live with some of them."
A SCOTCH editor apologizes for the lack of rhyme in his paper by saying that his marriage the week before took all the poetry out of him.
"GRANDMA," said a sharp child, do you want some candy "Yes, dear I should like some." "Then if you buy some I Avill give you a part.""
"Well, my boy, do you know what Syntax means?" said a school-master to a pupil. "Yes, sir," was the reply "it is the duty on spirits!"
AN Indiana paper chroniclcs a divorce granted to a lady, who, it says, was the sixth wife of the defendant, and the third separated from him by divorce.
AN Iowa editor told his readers he had enlisted in the army of Zion—had joined the Baptist church. His political cotemporary thinks lie had 1 fetter call it "joining the navy."
"GOOD morning, Mr. Ilcnpeck," said a printer in search of female compositors "have you got any daughters that would make good type-set-ters V" "No, but I have got a wife that would make a very fine devil."
MILTON was asked, "How is it that in some countries a king is allowed to take his place on the throne at fourteen 3rears of age, but may not marry until he is eighteen "Because," said the poet, "it is easier to govern a kingdom than a woman

"I SAY milkman, 3*011 give your cows too much salt !!1 "Why, how do you know how much salt I give them "I judge from the appearance of the milk you bring us lately. Salt makes the cows diy, and then they drink too much water, that makes their milk thin, you know.'1
AN orator, perspiring freely, in a husky voice said: "In short, ladies and gentlemen, I can only say that I wish I had a window in my bosom that j'ou might see the emotions of my heart." The newspapers printed the speech, leaving the "11'' out of "window."
A COTEMPORARY, who seems to have had the "experience,'' perpetrates the following good conundrum: "What is the difference between editorial and matrimonial experience'? In the former the devil cries for "copy." In the latter the "copy" cries like the devil."
AN editor once said to a young man who was about to wed the scissors and paste: "My young friend, you arc about to become, I learn, an editor of a newspaper. Permit an old man to give this advice. If you desire success in that capacity jrou should in each paper publish one column for a sensible man, and two for a fool."
THE editor of the

AN exchange says that a hen has a capacity of laying six hundred eggs and no more. As most of these arc laid during the first four years of her life, it is thought to be economy to cutoff her head when she is four years old and sell her to a boarding housekeeper for a spring chicken.
A SCOTCH prper lias a "Courtship Corner," which contains a variety of queer notices, similar, to those which appear under the head "Personal" in the some of our papers. But the most curious notice in the same paper is: "Young lady
Avanted,
about seventeen or eighteen, to go to a ball on the 14th."
AN exchange defines a country editor as "an individual Avho reads UOAVSpapcrs, writes articles on any subject sets type, reads proof, works press, folds ancl mails papers, prints jobs, runs errands, saAvs Avood, Avorks in the garden, talks to all who call, receives blame for a hundred dillerent things which are no one's business but his own, works from A.
