SINGER SEWING MACHINES, New York State Fair.

The State Fair just closed (at Buffalo) was an unexampled succfeis in.nearly every department The interest which usnally centers upon sewing machines was not wanting. It was intensified, doubtless, by the angry (and not altogether reputable) diepute which has arisen over the "medals" ?aid to have been awarded at the Paris Exposition. But these medals counted for nothing here, for the judges insisted upon a tliorougn examination for themselves of the several machines in competition, and the result was a unanimous' report awarding the highest prize to the exhibitors of tho. "Singer" for the best, family sewing machine alsir for the best manufacturing machine, an alStoor-tlMi best button-holo machine. A- clean sweep ana aK|E^.tcous. judgement say those who are best ini^Hied. It was suggested by many who saw the m&gniOcent display made of these machines, and the variety and admirable quality of the work they performed, that the manufacturers were remiss in not sending them to the Paris Exposition, and thus have obffated the bitter controversy being carried on over the gold medal. But the Singer Manufacturing Company, whose sales of machines for the past year have exceeded forty-three thousand (some thousands more than .any other company in the world) care mor^fdr the "people's verdict," wo apprehend, than'for'all tno-gbld medals that were or could haro been awarded at Paris. The Exhibition at Buffalo, to which we havo alluded, was made by tho enterprising agent3 of tho Singer machines in Utica.— Utica Daily Herald, Oct. 9.
