Tho hollow ground resounded beneath their feet as they traveled, and evenmoment seemed as if ready to break through. Not a living thing was seen in tho vicinity. The explorers gave it tho significant appellation of Hell.!

ter the cider is made and put in the "barrel, let it stand a week or more until it ferments, and the .taste is as desired. Then rack off and heat to a boiling point, putting it in a clean cask, and adding a teaspoonful of mustard seed. There is now a national debt bearing «.utTcncy interest' of 'over 8400, 0.00, 000, falling due from.tirpe to time. There is no dispute as to what this is payable in. A portion of this is made" up of 7-20s, which aro-conver-tible, at the option of:the holders, into -5-20s bearing 6 per cent, interest in coin but the Government could purchase these bonds.before maturity and retiro then. Tho compound note, falling -duo are payable, principle and interest in green backs. Why is n01 this done? It might be done if the Government had the greenbacks. ]iut with the present
issue
of tho lat-
ler the Secretary of the Treasury is not able to pay off the maturing currency debt. Beforo going away off into, the future, therefore, and borrowing trouble about.the 5-20s, why not get tho maturing currency debt out of the way? The last Congress tried to compell Mr.
MCCDLLOCH
to ox-
change greenbacks for compound interest notes, on the ground that it might be,,done without inflating'the currency, but the Democratic members of* Congress voted against the proposition, and it was defeated. Thus the Democrats in Congress voted pquaro against the proposition that the Democratic party now profess to tavor. —Cincinnati Gazzette. y:
