On Thursday last, aa a Mr. Jool Clingciyft citizon of Brown township, vns returning to his homej from a visit to this city, ho was. beset by a ruffian about four milos on his journey, and his money or his life demanded. Mr. C. refused to surrender, and while the desperado was in tlicact of pointing a pistol at him, ho knocked the wegp.qn jto ono sido and the horse-on which ho was mounted received the contents.». lnstuntly starting the ani tnal he proceeded on his way, but had only gone a short distance when hi.» liorso fell and died from the effect ol the wound ho had receivod. The es cape of Mr. C!iuo was almost provi dential. Pursuit is made for the fiendish scoundrel, but unavailing. Persons at homo or travelin£vsbould be prepared for all emergencies.
