History of the Bible.

Mr. JAMES E. BAIINF.TT, a very estimable young man, is at present engaged in canvassing this county for 'subscribers to a. most valuable and in'toresting work, entitled, "History of 'tho .Bible," written by Professor Stowe. The Professor is one of the most erudite and profound scholars in the country, and his book has elicited the commendations of tho most cmi -ncnt divines of all denominations.— -Among tho many who ififtvo rccominendcd the work, wo select- that of llev. Henry Ward Bcecher, Pastor of Plymouth Church, N. Y., who is personally known to a largo number oi our citizens. County Convention.

Tho Union Hepublicans mot in Convention on Saturday last, and nominated Capt. E. W. Nicholson, for Clerk, Noah W. Grimes for Auditor and T. W. Buffington for Commissioner.

This is a strong ticket, and worthy tho support of the people. Tho Convention was harmonious and-enthusi-astic, and ovinccd a determination to use all honorablo means for the succoss of the nominees. We shall, heroafter, give a moro extended natico of tho candidates, their political antecedents, and qualifications for tho offices for which they have boon designated, so that tho pcoplo may voto understand ingly.

Insurance.

There is nothing moro dcsirablo in a community than a safe, solvent and honorably managed Firo Insurance Company Agency. Our pcoplo arc fortunato in this respect, as Mr. JAMES HEATON is agent for just such an institution. The old, reliable Aetna still stands as firm as the everlasting hills, which neither storm nor firo can shako and although Mr. Heaton, by his energy and management, has built up a large business for this company in this and surrounding couuties, and many losses havo occurred, thc3'' havo been satisfactorily adjusted and promptly paid. It is always safo to insure with such institutions. See advertisement.
