The United States colonists who left this country for Brazil in order that they might not live under the government of the United- States, are now destitute and bitterly repent thoir journey.

-The Sheriff of Tishomingo eounty, is about to put to work fifteen hundred persons to pay their taxes. The'law of Mississippi authorizes him to do this.

A

suit has been brought at Wheoling, "West Virginia, by Joaeph II Pendleton and 'others, for the purpose of breaking tho will of the late- Alexander Gampbell, of Bethany, by which some 8200, =000 worth of property was devised.

HON. SA'3I MCKEE,

of Kentucky: in

his protes against allowing J. D. Young, his late competitor, his seat in Congress, alleges that Young, himself 'joined the rebel army in 1861, and was a candidate for Colonej of a regiment in tho same." This looks bad for Mr. Young.

A young man and' woman got married in Bethel, Me, last winter, and the next day the happy couple started on their honeymoon tour into the woods where he had contracted to cut A large quantity of cordwood. lie built a camp,'where sho spends her time in promoting the comfort of her husband, and on Saturday nights they both make their appearance in tho village to secure thoir supplies for the next woek's work, and return on Monday to their camp homo, as happy as a king and queon.

They tell of ono of tho unterrificd at Bridgeport, Conn, who was especially eager to seo the Presidential party' exclaiming, as ho rushed up to the car. "I don't care shucks about Johnson it's Parson Nasby that I want to seo."

HOG CHOLERA.—The

farmers of Illi

nois assert that the following simplo re needy for hog cholera has saved that State thousands of dollars in the last two years. It is surely cheap and although we sincerly hope our farmers shall have no use for it, we publish it, so that if tho hog plague should come they will have it ready for trial: "Take five pounds of the painting material known as "Venetian red,"- which can be obtained at any drug or paint store -and mix it with thirty gallons of either sour or sweet milk. Or this material may be mixed in smaller quantities if the same proportions are maintained. This mixture, thoroughly stirred'together, is to be placed in the troughs where hogs may go and drink freely of it for two or three days. The hogs will at once become convalescent*

On Monday last a man named Kemper, together with his wife, two daughters and three sons, living in Harrinon county, Indiana, killed a man "named John Roby, by hurling stones at him. They had a difficulty about

a law suit. A portion of tho party *bav been arrested.

The President, on the 5th inst, ncccptcd the 11th section of forty miles of tho Union Pacific railroad, and ordered the bonds and patents for the lands to be issned to the company. 'Tho previous section of forty miles was accepted byctho President on the 10th of June. Within one month this company has received from Government bonds to tho amount of $1,280,, 000—the subsidy given for tho construction of eighty miles of railroad.

THE JUMPING MATCH.—Thejumping

match for the championship of America, and a purse of §5,000, between Robert Way, of Pittsburg, and .Norman P. Bortio of ]S!ew York, took place Tuesday afternoon at Allegheny. In the first ltfap the- referee decided they were tie-each jumping, a distance of twelve feet. In tho second leap, Way jumped a distance of twelvo feet fivo and a half inches, beating his opponent. Way according to the conditions, then withdrew. Bortio then made eight^more leaps, but in no time scored the 'mark made by'j. Way, his greatestjump being twelvo feet three inches—two and a half inches less than Way's. Tho referee accordingly awarded the match and championship in favor of Way, and tho stakes wore promptly handed over^to the victor.

After tho contest was 'over, Way nftde a trial jump. Ono hundred foet was marked on tho ground, for ten jumps. Way then, at a stand still, commenced jumping, and made the ten jumps in succession. The last jump covered a diBtanco of sixteen feet: Jne jump was the longest on record,

Tho crown which the Emperor of Austria wore during the ceremony at Pesth was mado for Maria Theresa, but never used by that Princess. It is of silver, but

and pearls that the metal is scarcely visible. Ono of tho diamonds is valued at seventy thousand florins, and ono of the pearls at nino thousand.^ Two rose diamonds, close ^together are so aliko in shade, size, and cutting, that they seem to form only a single stone. .Eight others have each the volume of a good sized beam. Tho precious stones were formerly incrusted in the metal, but the Empross Elizabeth wished to have them set clear, and the crown, which was formorly estimated at two millions, is found to bo worth only ono.

Mr. Johnson has always insisted that tho power of each House of Congress to exclude disloyal members, under its authority to judge the elections and qualifications of its own members, was so ample that the measure taken to provide for the loyalty of the State were superfluous and unwarranted yet his organ the Intelligencer, charges tho House- with- revolutionary purposes, because it applied tho Johnson theory in tho case of the Kentucky membcis. It seems that his repeated affirmation that thw-is-theasay-to exclude disloyal members was #$&lso -as Mr._Stanbery shows his "veto opinion of CfJo rccoustructioU asl to be. ~. G1 v.?'-~-v-*'
