Kits my Wife or Fight Me—An Oscillatory Alternative. There are few married' men who are not averse to 6oeing their wives icissed, but nn exchange relates the par ticulars of a case in which a newly wedded benedict felt himself insulted because his wife wasn't kissed. Tho ^bridegroom in question was a stalwart young rustic, who was known as a formidable operator in a "free fight." His bride was a beautiful young country girl, only sixteen years of ago, and the twain were at a party, where a number bf j7oung folks were enjoying themselves in tho good old fash* ionod pawn playing stylo. Every girl in the room was called out and kissed except II, the beautiful young bride aforesaid, and although there was not a youngster present who was not dying to taste her lips, thoy wore restrained by tho presence of her herouloan husband, who stood regarding the party with a sullen look of dissatisfaction They mistook tho" cause, howover, for suddenly ho expressed himself. Rolling up his sleeves, ho stepped into tho middle of the room, and in atone of voice that secured attention, said: "Gentlemen, I have been noticing •how things have been working hero for some time, and I ain't half satisfied. I don't want to raiso a fuss, but"— "What's tho matter, John?" inquired half a dozen voices. "What do you mean? Have I
done
anything to hurt
your feelings?" "Yes, you have all of you have hurt my feelings, and I've just got this to say about it. Here's every girl in tho room has been kissed near a dozen times apiece and there's ray wife, who I consider as likely as any of them, has not had one to-night and I just tell you now, if sho docs not get as many kisses tho balance of the night as any gal in tho room, tho man that slights her has got me to fight—that's all. Now, go ahead with your plays!"
If Mrs. B. Vv r.3 slighted during the balance of tho evening,, ivo do not know it. As for ourself, wo know that John had no fault to find with us, individually, for any neglect on our part.
Brick Pomeroj and Ben. Butler. It was announced a day or two ago, that General Butler had instituted proceedings against "Brick" Pomero}*, of the La Crosse Democrat, for libel, laying his damages atone hundred thousand dollors. As some persons may bo curious to know wherein the libel existed, we reproduce the offensive paragraph. It occurred in the course of an indecent article, in which Butler is introduced in this style "He (Morrissoy) never stole spoons, "watches and jewels for his wife as Ben Butler has. When he fought with Heonan ho did not pick his pockets, or insult his sister or mother, as the Brute Butler insulted tho women of the South, who were robbed by his orders, and ravished by negroes and drunken whites with his consent, in retaliation for expressing their disgust at his venalities."
A daughter of David Aiitchcll, of Flint, Michigan, eighteen years of ago, was seized on tho street on Tuesday night by a man and woman, and forced to swallow a largo dose of arsenic. She now lies in a very critical condition. It is supposed that jealousy was tho cause of this singular outrage.

General Rosser and Henry A. Wise Addressed tho citizens of Richmond, Tuesday evening of last week on the
subject of relief for tho widows of Confederate soldiers. Both expressed the opinion that the rebellion had still a fair prospect for succe33. Wise said he would never give up, and that the South was sublimely unconqucred. He earnestly desired to be buried in a gray ovorcoat when his time should come.
Another bloody deod has been committed by a "reconstructed" upon the person of Senator Case, of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was assassinated ilast Monday weok by a guerrilla named Frank Harris. He is a fit subject upon whom to confer a pardon. Senator Case was one of tho prominent loyal men of the South, and had^ always been consistent in his political views.
GO OFF WITII A
RAIN?
A correspondent answers this question in the negative, and arrives at the conclusion thus: Take a snowball, hold it over alighted candle, and if the blaze will burn a hole through the center of the ball, it is evidence that the fall of snow will not go off with a rain. If, on the other hand, tho ball •will melt when tho heat is applied to it, the snow may be expected to disappear with a rain. Wo tried tho experiment on a snow ball, and a hole waB made through the center without tx drop of water falling from it. Our correspondent informs us that tho test is reliable. It is to be hoped, for the comfort of those who live or do busine88 in the bottom, that it may prove so.—Cincinnati Gazette.
Information from North Carolina is to the effect that a secret organization -with revolotionary objects oxists in "Union county. Outrages of an aggravated nature are being perpetrated on negroes in Wayne county, and the officers of the law confess themselves afraid to pursue the perpetrators with remedies jTovided by law.
THE Round Table makes this good point: "The rebels, just when their cause was caving in, proposed to arm the negroes the Democrats, now that they are in tho very death-struggle, propose to give the negro the ballot. The negro did not eavo the rebels, and he will never save the Dcmoor&tic party."

PILLS,
J. eo celebrated many years ago in Paris for tho relinf of female irregularities, and afterwards so notorious for their criminal employment in tha practico of abortion, are now offered for

To married ladies and young girls who havo never been regulated, they aro peculiarly «uited. They will, in a short time, bring on tho monthly poriod with regularity.
