With them, the ono is tho causo and the other the effect, [n ancient times, Avhen pestilence came immediately after a comet, the peoplo were all sure the comet had something to do with it. But people of sense, with habits of observation and reflection, have Ionr

A man dies immediately after drawing his last breath, but it does not follow^hat tho drawing of his last breath was tho cause of death. It is very true, ono who wished to bo facetious, might insist that ho would not have died if he had not taken his last breath, but this would be nearer an Irish bull than an argument, With quite as much sense, however, do some people argue about tho rise "and fall of prices.
Tho prico of hogs has recently gone down. Many aro hunting for the cause of this decline Wo havo heard a great many causes suggested. Some say it is, perhaps, because Andrew Johnson gets drunk. We have heard others say it might bo because ho
